WBZZ Calls

Infinity/CBS is removing WBZZ from the 1010 AM frequency in Tampa because Howard is gone. It appears the 1010 AM will be simulcasting WQYK-FM. That could mean Infinity is considering using WBZZ elsewhere. In that scenario, it makes sense to beat them to it with WBZB . Of course, this does not mean that WBZZ is coming back to Pittsburgh. Heritage CHR's are seldom resurrected successfully as CHR's. The younger audience tends to be trend followers and B94 is history like WPEZ, KQV,WIXZ,13Q, WEEP,WTAE , and on and on. When they are resurrected, it is usually like Q105 in Tampa and WWKB in Buffalo----"Oldies" or "Classic Hits" stations trying to appeal to their origional demo's.

Then again I could be wrong. WBZZ could come back like gang busters and WCBS FM could drop "jack" and rehire Cousin Brucie. In fact I hear WJAS is negotiating to bring back Barry Kaye and broadcast from his house.

Hummm...that is honestly VERY strange. I mean either this is one HUGE coincidence or something is up. Like I said, I don't want to dream up a whole mess of senarios, but something has got to be up. I mean c'mon, what are the odds of the calls "WBZB" coming out of no where and then Infinity just dropping the "WBZZ" from 1010 AM all when Howard will no longer be on WRKZ here in a few weeks? Wouldn't everyone just crap if it ended up, B93 and B94! :)<P ID="signature">______________

I think you're reading a lot into this.

For one, the Tampa station is also losing Howard Stern. It's an AM hot talker. It's leaving the format and simulcasting an FM station, and it makes sense for them to reclaim the WQYK(AM) calls.

It's just a coincidence that both stations involved - the Tampa AM and 93.7 in Da Burgh - are losing Stern.

I can't address the WBZB thing, though.

Well, I guess time will provide the answers for all our scenarios...

More people have posted in this thread than listen to 1010 WBZZ, Tampa. Oh, its 50,000 watts daytime allright....east and west...you lose the signal about six miles to the north in the daytime.....barely audible two miles north and south at night....

Hope ya get ur BUZZ back.

If it's just a conincidence, then why are they pulling the calls? That doesn't make sense to pull the calls.

The FCC no longer allows call-parking. That is, if Infinity changes WBZZ (A) in Tampa, and doesn't have them on another station somewhere (it would ahve to be a concurrent FM), Infinity loses them back into the system.

Abe - it's posted above why they are pulling the calls in Tampa. Howard was on that station as well:

"Infinity/CBS is removing WBZZ from the 1010 AM frequency in Tampa because Howard is gone. It appears the 1010 AM will be simulcasting WQYK-FM."
