WCAR Concord?

Last night I heard a very stong station on 104.9, and they were playing oldies with Classic Jingles IDing the station as W-C-A-R,the station was on and off, sometimes running a dead carrier for 15min at a time. The only thing in the way off an ID was, "W-C-A-R, broadcasting with 150,000 miliwatts. I listened until about 12:30 am, at which point it had been solid with no dead air for about an hour. When I woke up this morning it was all off. Anybody have any idea what I heard?

Im totally satisfied with the 1260KYA,,,the Bay Areas #1 oldies format,, nothing compares to what Gary Mora has accomplished! This radio station is some of the best radio ive heard in a long time! Two weeks ago , i finally got the Apple iphone4, and 99% of the reason was to be able to listen to 1260 KYA @ work, on the road! To think i spent so much time with XM radio,,and now its like total repitition, the playlists shrunk! With out a doubt,,1260 KYA is the "The Boss of the Bay" Gary,, the TOH jingle that KYA used for years is the icing on the cake, you know the one Im commenting on, and hearing the old commercials, and the Legendary voice of Tall Tom Campbell,,, its like its 1968 all over again! Yeah, almost certainly a pirate. There's a 104.9 in the hills East of San Jose & one in Rohnert Park, but neither one of them should make it to Concord. The description of the programming doesn't fit either of those either. Although, I'm wondering if 104.9 could be an LPFM frequency for that area under the proposed rule changes.

This isn't the first time 104.9 has been active, every Sunday for about 2 years now I hear some religous programming an hour at a time. I think the oldies broadcast came from the same person that's been broadcasting in the past. Since then all I've heard is a dead carrier for about five minutes one night. Also wouldn't 150000 milliwatts be 150 watts?

I heard the station late last night, I was very surprised to hear jocks, they were IDing the station as KSTN!!!

It all depends on antenna height. If it's line-of-sight with no interference at least 50 miles. But I highly doubt if that's the case here. If it's on someone's rooftop I would guess about 8 to 12 miles. Wonder how long they'll last before they get a visit from a federal official.

Even if they ran 24/7 it'd probably be years before they had a visit from the FCC...a pirate AM/FM in Victorville in Sothern California ran for years before finally being shut down by the FCC. They had a storefront office and were selling spots to local businesses...The two signals (the FM was on the non-comm part of the band, making it obvious it was not licenced) covered probably a 20-mile radius..they were running an Oldies format and Johnny Mann Drake jingles that they had sung for "Route 66 radio"..
