WCAT 1390 ..in florida?

Dear WCAT.

Had a chance, albeit unintentional, to sample some of your programming on Sunday, October 22nd. Ironically, I would have been back in Plattsburgh for a college reunion, (and to see if anything remains of my first commercial stomping grounds of 960 WEAV) but a pre planned Bahamian vacation took me to the islands instead.

While driving back from Port Canaveral, I was rolling around the radio dial and found myself at the 1400 spot on the AM dial in Zephyrhills, Florida. Long story short, they are now a Gospel station...which...on this day was airing the Sports USA/Jones radio whatever network NFL game featuring Eli Gold....until the third quarter when the game disappeared and gospel programming returned..with the hispanic announcer stating the game would return "in about 20 minutes " after an interview with a local gospel singer....

Now, I had no idea where the feed was coming from...what I did surmise was that someone would be in touch with station management, since Zephyrhills is in the Tampa market, where NFL radio broadcasts are blacked out until the Bucs are done playing...something they were doing at that particular time.

Hopping back in the car at 6 pm, I heard ex CBS announcer Howard David on the second game of the doubleheader, I almost drove off the road when I heard the "local" spots for a Middlebury , Vermont business...and a Vermont March of Dimes charity event, followed by the WCAT bumper.

Now, as a Plattsburgh State grad, the last word I need to hear is "Middlebury" (hockey fans will understand)...but it was nice to hear a north country station, whose roots reach back to its studios over the original "Big Brothers Tavern" in P'burgh....

I got quite a chuckle when you mentioned the WZHR calls. That station is owned by Wagenvoord Advertising Group - a husband & wife team based in Clearwater, FL. ZHR is LMA'd by a group of Hispanic broadcasters who also LMA their WDCF in neighboring Dade City. Though the owners don't program the station, what you're describing doesn't suprise me in the least... sounds very typical.

I'm not surprised at all. I know about "The Wagys" too... boy, could I tell some stories!

Eli Gold, I believe.... does NASCAR Races. My gut tells me he also does college football in Alabama.
