WCAU-AM

WCAU-AM was a far better station than WPHT, in terms of talent and programming.

It was also decades ago, rendering such things "apples and oranges."

What he said. If they never had changed the calls, and 1210 was still wcau today, 1210 would still be the same exact station it is now, outside top of the hr call letter/city iding.

Would a VO saying WCAU - Philadelphia once an hour really make a "far better station" then the current WPHT - Philadelphia?

WCAU-AM became WOGL-AM because they were losing a ton of money. After becoming "Oldies 1210" and basically a second frequency for Oldies 98 and carrying the Phils, they actually made money for the first time in many years. So maybe they have less talent now, but they are profitable. And that is what matters.

I thought that Oldies 1210 still had the calls of WCAU-AM.
Oldies 1210 had a different morning show then WOGL-FM but other then that they were a simmocast?

When Hy Lit took over at 1pm that fateful afternoon, WCAU became WOGL-AM. They aired Don Cannon's morning show on AM and FM. Then came Hysky and I think that's when Harvey Holiday came to the station to do the AM side. Night and overnight became WOGL AM & FM.

I suppose of Holiday was High there might have been a difference. ;) But since there was no "High" on the airstaff....

They have one sports station on two frequencies that happens to offer differing programs at limited times.

Huh?
I was asking if the music was different on the AM and FM when they were being split (different personalities.)

The AM included more pre-64 oldies. I really enjoyed the AM and listened to it more than 98. Its all a matter of taste, of course. And Hy was allowed to use more personality on AM than on FM.

As for bringing back WGMP, do you really want the "Fabulous Sports Babe" back? Although I'll admit, Scott Walker in the afternoon was good radio.

Am I the only one who remembers "Fifties Friday" on Oldies 1210? A title and format like that would never exist today on an oldies station.

Indeed it wouldn't. WOGL has a '70s Sunday, which is the logical sweet spot for their audience. A generation ago, the '50s were a better fit. Not so much this many years later.
