WCAU NBC 10 News changes

Dawn Timmeney has left the weekend 6 PM and 11 PM newscast to move to the 5 p.m. Live at Five show with Vince DeMentri when he returns from the shelf. Lynn Berry as of yesterday is now co-anchoring the weekend morning newscasts with John Blunt. Michelle Grossman debuted yesterday as the weekend morning meteorologist on NBC 10 news. Aditi Roy as of last night is the new anchor for the weekend 6 and 11 PM newscasts on NBC 10.

Nbc10 needs to giveup they are now number 4 in local news in my opinion

I wonder when they will start broadcasting their news in HD? It would still be the worst in town, but at least it would look better.

The couple of times that I've seen Michelle Grossman, she seems to be lacking something. I don't know if it's a rapport with the anchors or nerves or just a lack in personality, but it's almost like that, when she sees the light on the camera go on, it dawns on her that she's actually on TV and not one of the Comcast, throw away weather channels.

I really doubt that WCAU-TV is getting out of the news business after 60 years anytime soon. If you want my honest opinion they need to fire the entire news management of the station including the news director.

Maybe if the station should try paring Lynn Berry with Grossman anchoring the news on weekend mornings, not with John Blunt.

Anyone know what happened to Karen Thomas?

Karen was only freelancing at 10. Michelle Grossman was hired full time to take over the weekend morning slot thus Karen was no longer needed. If NBC 10 does not hire a fifth weatherperson by the time Grossman goes on maternity leave than Karen may be invited back to fill-in for her.

cool245, thanks for the clarification. We thought Karen did a great job and were afraid she had been let go not of her own accord.

Over at Ch 3 we just heard Carol Erickson say Doug Kammerer starts there tomorrow, joining Kathy Orr. What is it with Ch 10? Is it a tough place to work or something? Ch 6 seems to be the most stable.

Did she mention him by name? I'm guessing if so than the no compete must be up starting today. If 3 was smart they would air a lot of promos tonight plugging his return tomorrow. Up until this point they were not allowed to say his name or show his face.

The non-compete expired Friday. The promos with him starting running Saturday with increased frequency last night.

OK, guess I wouldn't know that since I didn't watch 3 last night. ;D

Do you think that these recent anchoring changes that WCAU-TV has made will work or not?

"Work" is a pretty broad term Julius. Work meaning improve the numbers? Climb to number two? Number one?

Doubtful the last will happen anytime in the near future...unless channels 3 and 6 sign off for good. Much as news directors think some magic moving around of the chess pieces will finally be the lightning in a bottle they're searching for, it seldom happens that way. You can't ignore everything else going on on the other channels and with your own network, just for starters, when making an evaluation. Right now CBS is in a better place than NBC, and it shows.

There's much to be said for consistency, and having long-serving, familiar faces there to greet viewers. Channel 10 long ago abandoned that strategy. How much, if any, that contributed to their fall is impossible to isolate. It probably isn't unreasonable, though, to speculate that it didn't help matters when they were getting less and less help from the network side.
