WCAU-TV 10 airs new show called "Out Of the Vault"

"Out Of The Vault" will air, on WCAU-TV 10 only , from Monday to Friday, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. ET. The first show aired Monday and the series concludes in early December. Old programs from WCAU-TV will be airing in this series: http://www.nbc10.com/entertainment/9792631/detail.html and http://www.nbc10.com/videovault/index.html BTW WCAU-TV is looking for more old programs they aired: http://www.nbc10.com/videovault/4413706/detail.html

The sad thing is that WCAU has the least, IMHO, classic local programming in the Delaware Valley. KYW or WPVI dipping back into their vaults would have been so much more interesting. Could you imagine seeing footage of Sally Starr? Or Pixanne? Or other classics?

Bravo to WCAU for doing this, but let's see it from Channel 3 and Channel 6, too!

As I recall Pixanne was on Channel 10.
But it looks like most they are doing old news stuff.

NBC10 is bumping the daytime Reality Series to do this. It is produced by NBC Universal and running on other NBC owned TV stations at noon.

This seems like a lot of time to devote to old documentaries and public service programs nobody remembers and few watched at the time. Channel six always had more (often better) local programming than three and 10. In all likelihood few tapes or kinescopes of old kids' shows or entertainment programs have survived - news is probably about all they've got. I don't see much on the list I'd care about seeing.

This seems like a really dumb idea. I can't believe this will do better than Starting Over.

It looks like they are doing this as a very very cheap way to fill a programming hole. The only thing of remote intrerest is WCAU: The First 40 Years. Other than that it just looks like random very dated things they sent the intern down to the tape library with the instructions "Just grab some old stuff."

Fred: You're right, Pixanne WAS on Channel 10. My bad. In fact, they've got her and Gene London coming up on October 19th.

Otherwise, I don't know. It's an interesting mix. The "Candy Apple News" re-runs are welcome, since they have Matt Robinson, after he was rudely bumped off of "Sesame Street," the show he helped create. It's also noteable as one of the last real local kids' shows done.

The Gene London retrospective and "The Rizzo Years" should be interesting, as will be "Ten Around Town" with Pearl Bailey. Some of the other stuff might be worth watching.

Odd that 10's pre-empting an NBC produced reality show for this, since it's an NBC O&O.

The NBC Reality Show is starting over and I think it's either been been cancelled or put on hiatus. NBC O&O WVIT is airing the infomercial Fighting For Life on Tuesday and Friday 12PM-1PM instead of Starting Over. Starting Over is air the other 3 days. But begining Monday September 18 The Megan Mullaly Show takes over the 12PM-1PM Slot.

The NBC Flagship Station WNBC in NYC also makes the following changes:

10AM Martha (Replaces Ellen)
11AM Local NYC Programming (Produced by non-commercial WNYE/25) [Replaces Martha]
12PM Judge Joe Brown (Replaces Starting Over)
3PM Megan Mullaly (Replaces Judge Joe Brown)
4PM Ellen (Replaces Judge Judy)

Also WCAU-TV aired Infomercials for 2 weeks not too long ago from 11 AM-12 PM I think

I believe all of the NBC O&O affiliates are doing similar local programming fillers in place of the syndicated NBC Universal program Starting Over for some very strange reason. Apparently there is some contractual obligation on the NBC O&O's part to fill this time until January 2007. Does anyone have any details on this issue?

An update to the NBC O&O stations morning programming beginning in late December 2006 at 11AM is the following: In December a program called "iVillage Live," Filmed on location at Universal Studios Orlando, will be dedicated to delivering the information and advice that millions of iVillage users have come to depend upon. From parenting and pregnancy to health and beauty and style, this daily 1-hour program will air on the NBC Universal Owned and Operated stations and will be streamed live on iVillage.com.

I think most of the ivillage users would be at work, so the show is going to fail.

NBC pretty much rules the morning hours with "Today" in terms of ratings and profit. Its gains cover them for the late morning, which they don't really need to air anything. They probably figure they can't compete against "Price is Right" and "The View" anyways. The NBC execs want to expand the Today show, but that'd pretty much kill the 10! show locally.

If the talked about fourth hour of Today is added, it would be an interesting experiment for NBC-10 to tape delay it until 11 a.m. - run it against Price is Right and The View, keeping "10!" in place at 10 a.m.

NBC10 passed on "Megan Mullally" as well. The NBC-owned stations had first choice - WPHL picked it up for the market instead. I suppose the NBC-owned stations wanted to keep one hour available for future use. NBC doesn't want to add more newscasts and then have to cease them, for this interim.

The other NBC affiliates like WVIT, and WNBC that picked up "Megan Mullally", along with having "Martha" and "Ellen" commitments, could always drop "People's Court" [for WVIT] or "Judge Joe Brown" [for WNBC] to accomodate the future use of an hour. WRC 4, which also does 4pm news and 10am local programming, didn't pick up the Megan show either -it went to the My station in D.C. as well, and WRC is running filler programming in the noon hour.

In Chicago, WMAQ did pick up Megan, and has Ellen and Martha as well. Maybe they wanted Megan for their top 3 markets. I presume if they were to launch something else for the NBC owned stations, the 11am newscast on WMAQ and the following program, "In Wine Country" would be cancelled, or they'd just offer another station in the market, the program.
