WCAU-TV 10 news operation

I'm very disappointed that WCAU-TV 10 newscasts has gotten poor in recent years because of its poor news operation and the bad ratings they are getting. They starting to look like what channel 3’s news operation was in the first 5 years of being a CBS station. Some of the anchors are not good readers, they speak too softly, talks too fast, and they don’t even do a report for a story on the newscasts like 6, 3 does especially during the 11 PM news. They just show the video and tell the story without the reporter telling it, The weather segment is shortened to 1:30 or less for the 11 PM newscast, the sports anchors on the station expect for the new one Jade McCarthy are not good and I can go on and on. WCAU's news operation is not as good as it once was when Larry Kane was anchoring. I'm sad to see the newscasts on station my mom (she is in her 50’s) has been watching since she was a little girl during the John Facenda years decline so badly. It's a shame. Philly TV newscasts are really all poor and not good as they were many years ago but I chose one station to talk about which is WCAU-TV. Also I want to bring to your attention the fact that WCAU-TV doesn't display its legal ID while a program is in progress at the top of each hour especially during NBC sports broadcasts. I would like to get your opinions on this?
 
If you dislike this station, just do not watch.
If you want to hear John Facenda, get some NFL Films DVDs.

As for the issue of the legal IDs, if you are watching the station on cable, your cable operator may be getting a fibre feed of the signal that doesn't have things like legal IDs, as the over the air feed. Why don't you call the station's master control and ask them. Here is the main number (212) 664-4444, and just ask of WCAU master control.

Now if you are so bloody unhappy with the quality of television newscasts in your market, why don't you move?
 
Julius, why do you keep posting these crazy rants?
Several people have suggested you not watch television if you are so unhappy with it, move, or find some way to get out of market stations. You really need to focus on something positive and something that will get you out of your house. Go volunteer somewhere or maybe get a job. Everyone would benefit from it!

Don't know, I kept seeing WCAU-DT during the Iggles game last night on Sunday Night Football. So, they were at least IDing in HD last night.

Jesus...some of you guys are really immature. It's not like Julius is bashing the station. He's giving a detailed opinion on how a certain station operates, and whether it's good or bad. It should not be shunned like he commited murder on the board. Telling someone "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." is pretty much saying that you cannot express a negative opinion on any subject on this board. It's not that big of deal. How about, if you don't agree with the thread topic, don't reply to it.
 
Its not just WCAU-TV, its all local news.

Pretty girls and boys with absolutely no journalistic training or sense pretending to read the news. Doesn't management think of anything but looks? How about being a professional broadcaster?

Think about it, with all that is going on in the world and locally, how can they, in good concience, waste all the time they do on fluff pieces. Yeah ratings,, but how about protecting our freedom of the press. People have fought and died for us to have the right to see..... people walking on the boardwalk down the shore on a hot weekend? I'm sure there are more important stories to cover. And while I'm at it, whats the deal with the weather. Do we really need 3 minutes of weather out of 22 (or less) minutes of information? They take over 2 minutes to tell me what the weather was today. I know what the weather was, I was there. How about the forecast? One minute is all they really need.

We should be embarrassed to have this kind of programming pretending to be news. Don't we have any pride in journalism or is it all just for ratings?
 
Julius May basically makes three types of postings. The first type is the I hate everything about Philadelphia radio/televison. The second type is the "I have no thoughts on this, what are yours?" The third type is the obscure link to an article or website. And how does he have all the time in the world to watch TV, listen to the radio and surf the web? He claims to be "disabled."
 
Look...I don't know who any of you are. I know a few names because I'm familiar with your work on local stations. I offer that disclaimer because I don't want my comments to be misinterpreted as protecting a friend or dismissing someone I don't like. As I said, I don't know any of you.

I'm SO puzzled by this hatred and disgust for Julius May. Has he ever personally attacked anyone on these boards? As many of you say to him, "If you don't like tv/radio in the area, don't listen." Well if you folks get so crazed by his posts, why not simply skip them as you read?

My understanding of the whole board system on line is for people to get the chance to post their opinions. If you think someone's opinion is worthless, fine, don't read it. But to tell someone not to have one seems a little extreme.
 
Julius May is basically a problem user. Several other people have mentioned that he was kicked off of a few other boards because of the same sort of behavior he has here.

THANK YOU. I have not gotten a complaint from the MODS of this board yet and I want to keep it that way. I'm not here to insult anyone on this board. I'm here just to give my opinions on the topics of the day.
 
I enjoy reading most of Julius' posts! Many of them have pointed our a news article or story i would've have seen otherwise but found useful.

Just like you told Julius to turn off the TV if he didn't like it.. how come you old, oversized babies hate Julius but stil lread his psots? If you don't like him, don't read his psots.

It's almost as if you you're looking for something to coplain about...
