WCBE moving up

OK, it's only barely over 1, but Columbus City Schools non-comm WCBE -- which apparently started subscribing to Nielsen in January -- is at a 1.1 share 6+ in the June PPM. It's an uptrend, with the biggest jump this month: .3->.4->.6->1.1. But hey, they are the only station in town where you can hear Willie Nelson.

I also note that iHeart's Talk WTVN has been suffering a sustained downtrend for awhile now: 8.0->7.5->6.7->5.8->5.5.

Meanwhile, as RadioInsight notes, Saga's WSNY had a good month with a big 1.6 point jump into third place (7.6), while Columbus' other AC, NABCO's WJKR HD2 Star 94.1, also did well going 1.1 -> 1.5. (BTW, I'm not sure I would label Star 94.1 "Soft AC." While they play plenty of soft hits, they also play, say New Radicals' "You Get What You Give," which I doubt Sunny would touch.)

Sunny seems to mix in harder tracks lately. The other day I tuned over and they were playing Just a Girl by No Doubt. For pretty much the existence of that band the only song Sunny ever played was Don't Speak, so it was a pleasant surprise.

I have to wonder how many people are listening to 94.1 on the WJKR-HD2? I don't think that there's a way to break that out.
RadioInsight shows cume in the last column. It's 93,200 listeners this month, up from 65,700 in the May PPM. That's a 42% increase, and means that almost all of their share increase came from growing their base of listeners.

EDIT: Oh, I see now that's not what you were asking, but it's still a relevant fact.

I'm actually happy to see WCBE is gaining some traction. While not everything I think they play is great, I admire the fact that something like this exist and I can always find something different and unique on the station. I am a big fan of the All Mixed Up show they do on Saturday Nights. Really hope they don't get hit too hard with the republicans trying to kill anything good.

As for other ratings, hats off to North American Broadcasting for the switch on 103.9. That is paying off nicely.

The Fan dropping to 6.3 and 5th place is a bit of a eye raising. I wonder if it's an effect of the lineup changes, the fact it's summer so the dead period for sports, or a mixture of both. People will come back during the football season so should be fine.

The Fan always has a severe summer slump. The numbers will re-nflate in the fall when football returns.
