WCBK Martinsville will celebrate 45 years on the air on Wednesday April 18th. Station owner Dave Keister will join me, along with the original morning news man, (now Mayor of Martinsville) Phil Deckard. A number of former employees will also be checking in by phone and in person.
Who cares?
Watching paint dry is more entertaining and exciting then listening to this station. The morning man is worse then a high school DJ, the guy on in the mid-day sounds like he's puking his lungs out, talks way too much about nothing, and the one that is on in the afternoon..... I can't understand. This station is a waste.
Congrats to WCBK...I have some great memories of my couple of years there with guys like Bryan Sprayue, Todd Youmans, Ranger Dave, Steve Vail, Steve Ross, and of course Scott Wayman, along with Debbie Raisor and Lori Perdue doing news. I'll never forget the afternoon that the station took a lightning hit and blew out the air studio board just as I was getting ready to do my afternoon show from the county fairgrounds...Steve Ross was an engineering whiz and got us back on the air through the production room and the marti unit...great times! Wish I was still in the area, I'd love to stop in and say hi to Mr. Keister. Hope you all have a great time on Wednesday.
the station and it's people connect with the community. Can't say this station is anything but a good local servant. Regardless of the lack of Larry Lujack in the morning chair.
The former post being rather judgmental and subjective leaves room for some finger wavin.
If someone wants to complain, lets her your aircheck first. Paul Harvey had a voice that was odd to most, but his distinct voice was loved by millions not because he was a great voice but because of him as a person. To be able to communicate with other deficiencies known, what a great accomplishment.
We need to add an Engineering section to this. I like the story of the new tower build that went wrong. Lots of money spent then the tower crew cuts the guys on the old tower and it falls not exactly where they thought, into the new tower. Two towers on the ground. Ouch. Tower guy shok his head and walked away as the story goes. The station met this disaster in step and continued on. Congrats.
I wish I could have said it as eloquently...While I wish they would not have brought the satellite in, overall, the station is still a great example of something the Morgan County audience can actually count on in a way that no Pandora or iPod (or nearby Indy station) can ever hope to match.
Congrats to Mr. K, Scott, John, Randall, Steve & the whole WCBK gang on the 45th anniversarry! I enjoyed my short time working part-time there. Keep on super-serving the community!
