WCBS 880 to have early morning simulcast on WCBS- FM

However, this news simulcast is scheduled outside of the rated time period between 6:00 am and midnight.
Midnight to 6 AM is rated. It's just not in the standard tables, and one needs to use PPM Analysis Tool or the Diary system equivalent to see that data.

That kind of public affairs programming heard on every radio back in the 70s and 80s intrigues me. Were those shows borings? How much audience did they have? Did someone wake up at 4:30AM on a Sunday to listen "Education Roundtable" on WABC-FM?
Back in that period of time of the 70's and early 80's, the FCC would set aside any AM renewal application that did not have 8% or more News, Public Affairs, Religion or "Other" (agriculture, education, etc) or 6% for an FM. So we ran some stuff in overnights and Sunday morning, and did some capsule news and PA in other hours.

And renewals then were every three years. So there was a real fear of the risk and expense of "further examination" or a hearing.

Bryan McGregor was a news staff
"Canada Now" on CKLW, produced by the 20-20 News team was pretty good, and had enough U.S. listeners to react when a news staffer (not Byron McGregor) read "The Americans" for the first time---leading to Byron's recording and the rest being history.

Bryon McGregor was a news staff at CKLW who went to have his only Top 40 hit called “The Americans”.
