I would like to know will WCBS 101.1 FM use every jingle from the original oldies format that lasted 33 years?

No, a good number of them refererred to CBS-FM "Playing your Favorite oldies" and since they are no longer an oldies station and are not claiming to be an "oldies" station, a good number of those jingles would no longer make sense.

Well, can't they have those resung?
Don't most of those have versions without the logo or tag?

I am not sure if they can be resung since the new logo has more words than the old ones ie: "We play your favorite oldies...CBS-FM" is much shorter than "We play the Greatest Hits of the 60’s 70’s & 80’s” on CBS-FM" See what I mean? I am not an expert on jingles but I don't think it would fit with the music but perhaps the music can be re-mixed to fit as well. I used to love the old jocks name tags: "Bob Shannon plays your favorite oldies on CBS-FM!" The harmonies on the name tag along with the music was great, but I don't know if they can be remixed to say "Bob Shannon plays the Greatest Hits of the 60’s 70’s & 80’s” on CBS-FM!" As I stated that is just my opinion, I am not a jingle expert, I am sure there is somebody that will read this thread who is more of an expert than I am. If it can be done, I would love to hear 'em ;D ;D ;D

Most syndicated jingle packages had multiple versions of the tracks to accomodated different call letter syllable counts and even non-US stations that generally don't use calls at all.

Depending on who did any specific package, the tracks may or may not still exist. Many have probably never been converted to digital and the masters may be gone, deteriorated or otherwise not available... depending on the rights holder, too.

I recently downloaded a medley of old CBS-FM jingles, and there are quite a few jingles not currently in use that don't reference "oldies". I don't claim to be an expert on this matter, but I suppose it's possible that they feel those jingles sound too dated for other reasons, or maybe they will be worked in eventually.

As for the idea of modifying the ones that do reference "oldies"...hey could use their other current slogan, "New York's Greatest Hits", or even just "the greatest hits". They have been using jingles with the latter phrase, which I believe are from the latter days of the "old" CBS-FM. One even says "the greatest hits of all time", so I guess that phrase isn't taboo.

And FWIW, they've used the "remember your favorite oldies" jingle during the Top 20 Countdown.

Most of the jingles currently in use are "recycled" from previous packages. Because of this, there's not a lot of continuity in the jingles between dayparts, except for the TOH ID. A couple of them have been edited "in house" to accomodate new CBS-FM jocks, Broadway Bill Lee & Joe Causi. My guess is you'll be hearing a brand new jingle package in the very near future once they've rounded out their airstaff schedule.

I think this also provides some evidence that this flip was something that was not given a lot of time to make happen. Even three weeks in, they're still exeperiencing minor technical glitches, uneven audio, microphone feedback (especially with Shannon).

Which, mind you, is played on Sunday nights at 10 PM, outside of any important dayparts.

KOOL 98.3 WTKU-FM at the South Jersey Shore uses the same package, re-lyriced to "plays your favorite music...TKU-FM"

If you haven't heard the CBS-FM jingles over the last 33 years, here is a montage of all of the CBS-FM jingles that you'll remember. This was from Don Swaim's website, the audio quality was excellent, but the same thing was not that good on the WCBS-FM tribute site. Enjoy!

If you want to listen to these jingles from the CBS-FM "Do It Again" package, keep in mind that up in Albany, NY, WKLI's "Magic 100.9" did use the same jingle package with the CBS-FM resings and the same voiceover guy made by Ziggy Pelzer. You should listen to this one online.

The most prevalent jingles on WCBS-FM at the moment are from the 1994 JAM custom package (syncidcated as "Do It Again."). Yes, there are various mix-outs of these cuts, as well as the possibility of re-lyricing them without the reference to "oldies."

However, while "DIA" is one of the best packages that has come down the pike in a long time, after 13 years it's probably time to update the sound. I would hope that they go to JAM again. What I would envision is a package that evokes the late '70's sound of WABC as well as the early days of Z-100. They could re-sing selected cuts from some of the JAM packages that were on the air in those days (LogoSet, Priority One, Positron, Express Pack, Flame Thrower, Warp Factor, etc.) as well as possibly some custom cuts that would blend with the sound. It might be cool to see if the writers at JAM could come up with an hour opener that was a variation on New York, New York flowing into the TOH ID.

It's interesting to note that the first package that aired on CBS-FM as an oldies station (PAMS "Goldmine", 1972) had few, if any, references to the term "oldies," but leaned on phrases such as "Greates hits of all time," "Where all the good songs have gone," "Solid gold radio," "Rock 'n roll", etc.

Well it would appear that CBS-FM has some new jingles that they're working into the presentation... including some late 70's JAM cuts (which I suggested in the above). They are also running some mix-outs of the jock cuts from "Do It Again" without the "Oldies" references.

They are using some old shotguns and short jingles from "Positron," an old WABC package as well as another old WABC shotgun. They were used for a short time in late-'04 and '05 before the flip to Jack.
