wcbs-FM 101.1 switches to JACK FM!

this one has really caught me by suprise and I though that wxrx 92.3 would flip before anything else. wcbs-fm 101.1 out of nyc has flipped to jack-fm
all I am asking myself is what the Hell?
congrats to 96.7 wkhl for now being the only oldies station with coverage nyc metropolitan area.

It is, and the message does deal with Connecticut, WKHL is in Stamford.

With today's action by WCBS-FM< and many of the other station that have flipped to Jack, plus the loss of "true oldies" identity (the updating of oldies music to include 80's and/or 90's) is it possible DRC-FM might be the next station to get Jacked up? (just a thought, but personally I think a hot-ac either in the Hartford or Springfield market will be next)

Oldies, variety hits, NYC, Coast to Coast...Conn., and now Prov. too!

WOW I would have never thought that WCBS would go Jack!! Do you think this will do well in the next ratings period? Or will it take the tri-state area some time to get used to 101.1 Jack?

And upset all the suburban soccer moms? TIC-FM won't be changing. My money is on WDRC-FM 102.9 to make the switch.

WLKK in Waterbury, VT changed to MP103. (I am unsure if WXAL, the possible former simulcast has or not).

I don't know if I would consider Philly to be the "Northeast" more than the Mid-Atlantic. It's a question of judgement on that one.

It is part of the northeast. To me the northeast is the six New England states, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Many also throw in Delaware, Maryland and Washington DC into the mix (like Amtrak does with their train service).

Huh? I don't understand this post. Also, Magic 97.7 does better than your colleg station, no offense.

Here is my thought on this switch more than anything else. If a company can blow out a station with the heritage of cbs-fm, and put out to pasture legendary personalities like Bruce morrow and Harry Harrison among others, than that should tell us that nobody is safe. I know announcers who openly complain about the 300 song playlist, cookie cutter managing and all of the other big corporation strangulations, thinking that the 16,17..etc years that they have invested at the station offers them job security. This just lets everyone know, the only people who think of announcers with a steady track record at one station as being special are the listeners. To the owners we are just employees. And even though this is a connecticut board, this is such a shocking move that you have to think that it's making waves through radio boards all over the place. Face it anyone with any respect or appreciation for the industry knows who these announcers were, even if you've never heard one mic break from them, you know the names.

Obviously you've never heard Frank FM. It's nothing but classic hits, just like 105.7 WROR in Boston, or 105.9 WHCN (minus the 90s and today).
 
Just trying to say that this station WGMK 97.7 is a Jack based format. hope this clears it up.
