WCBS-FM A To Z #1 Countdown July 2012

A virtual repeat of their Thanksgiving Week 2011 presentation for "Independence Week" 2012.
I'm sure they'll add a few and drop a few tunes.

November 2011 thread on this topic here.

Post on WCBS-FM's website with an A to Z list of #1's played in November 2011 here. (Nothing for "X" and "Z". :()

>>(Nothing for "X" and "Z"<<
CBS-FM has played Olivia Newton-John's Xanadu (1980) in past A-Z specials.
If they wanted a Z song, certainly they could end with a tune from Bowie (Ziggy Stardust) to the theme from Zorba the Greek to Disney (Zippity Doo Dah). There are Z songs to choose from.

This is a #1 songs countdown - not just "artists" or "songs" - thus the list is restricted to #1's. Up to this point there haven't been any #1 songs starting with "X" or "Z".

Generally, WCBS-FM has used the national Billboard Hot 100 Charts for "#1 Weekends" in the past - but as the disclaimer used to say on their Top 20 Countdowns: "the list is compiled from various sources and is consistent with our format" (or similar wording).

Wikipedia's compilation of Billboard Hot 100 #1 Singles here.

Billboard's chronological list of the first 1000 #1 Hot 100 singles from August 4, 1958 ("Poor Little Fool" by Ricky Nelson) through February 26, 2011 ("Born This Way" by Lady Gaga) here.

Are they even doing their A to Z feature this Independence Day? Doesn't seem like it - there have not been any promos for it or any hints about it anywhere (although CBS's redesigned website is just awful and filled with generic artist content). Just the 40th Anniversary weekend. Maybe that takes the place of the A to Z this year.

Dick Bartley mentioned the A to Z #1's in one of the little "blurbs" about WCBS-FM that he uses coming out of the commercial breaks on his Sunday night program. Although to be sure, ya nevah know...

True, since the anniversary weekend starts Fri. 7/6, the A to Z wouldn't last long (Mon. 7/2-Fri. 7/6). But they usually do an A to Z during "Independence Week" and though I haven't counted them up from the November 2011 airing, there's likely only 600-800 titles (maybe a few more) at most which could be rolled through in 3-4 days; maybe that's why the #1 list last aired Thanksgiving weekend where it could roll out between Wednesday and Sunday. Which would fit nicely here instead of the standard "song" or "artist" based A to Z which usually runs 6 to 8 days.

An All American Weekend makes sense for this weekend for Independence Day, Even a Party Songs weekend would be a good fit this weekend in my opinion. As for the A To Z Week, maybe they'll feature it some other time this summer?
