WCBS-FM A-Z COUNTDOWN IS BACK

What seems to have become a twice a year tradition (the week of Independence Day & the week of Election Day) is returning to CBS-FM on Monday morning 6/28/10 at 9am ET. Most likely it will run thru at least Monday 7/5/10 (the observance of the Independence Day holiday) & quite likely Tuesday 7/6/10.

Unlike the "dentist's board" where it's frowned upon, I'm sure there'll be discussion here about songs played & songs left out.

... and some who try to peek in the windows and rattle the doors, trying to get a preview of everything in between, in addition to the A to Z.

Meanwhile, sister station WOGL in Philadelphia is doing a "Top 1000 Countdown" all this week and into the holiday.

Is it just me, or did these two stations did the same things last year, but with the "A To Z" event on WOGL and the "Top 1000" on CBS-FM?

:) I always enjoy the A to Z countdown. I hear my song "Along comes Mary" and many others I do not hear. I like it stops at midnight too, so I can get my ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ'S

I don't know, I think the voicetracked midnight-5 AM shift kinda takes away from the fun a little bit. When CBS-FM used to do the original "New York Top 500" on Thanksgiving weekend, they didn't stop halfway through at 12 midnight and continue the next morning.

Green songs played: Green-Eyed Lady (Sugarloaf), Green Grass (Gary Lewis and Playboys), Green Onions (Booker T and MG's), Green River (CCR), and Green Tambourine (Lemon Pipers).
Green, Green Grass of Home (Tom Jones) sure could have fit in there.

All of the above songs have been heard with some regularity on New London, CT oldies station "Kool 101." (Which has been a challenge to listen to the last couple of days as there is some sort of issue with their streaming - must be affecting the entire cluster as "98.7 The Sound" is experiencing the same streaming difficulties...)

This has been the worst one yet (as I sit and listen to a LIVE version of Heaven by Bryan Adams... guys, really?). Yesterday they missed "Everything That Touches You" and "Everyone's Gone To The Moon" but they've been playing non-charting hits like "Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite". WTF?

Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite charted #1 in the United States.  It also charted #1 in the United Kingdom.  Just thought I would point that out.  It is usually a good idea to check those kinds of stats before making such a statement, baby dj.

:) when they played Mary Hopkins "Goodbye" today in the G songs I was so Happy!!

I sometimes would hear her other one. "Those were the days" which I love too, I hope they play that in the T's :)

:) Another Great "H" song "Hollywood Swinging" Kool and the Gang!!! WTG!!! :) Now "Homeward Bound" my favorite Simon and Garfunkel!!! :) No one likes "Honey" but I like it, makes me cry all the time. I remember buying that record and crying, just like I did for "Sad movies"

i'm loving every second of this extravaganza on New York's #1!..and so is the rest of the tri state area(and, the world, on line!!!!)

Really, lalumia? Even if they don't include anything from The New York Dolls or Wayne County in the countdown? ;)

But will they touch "Temma Harbour"? ???

whilst driving to Max's Kansas City on Park Avenue South and 17th St in the 70s to see The Dolls and Wayne, I had the hits blasting out on MusicRadio 77WABC...best of both worlds; underground and bubbleground..

NY dolls I saw them in south street seaport Ugh!! they came instead of the Boxtops, which I went there for them, but they had to cancel. I left after the second song of the Dolls, but lots of kids there. I did not not care for them.

Does anyone know if they played "In the Still of the Night" by the Five Satins? I heard a few pre-Beatles oldies today, but I can't stay glued to 101.1 all day.

They played In The Still of The Niight, by The Five Satins

Mary, the current version of The New York Dolls is minus their three deceased members, but they're still fabulous...you might like their cover version of "Stranded In The Jungle" from the second album,'Too Much, Too soon" released in 1973; shoulda been a hit, but U.S. radio was afraid of boys in platforms and glitter...that's America's loss; we got subjected to Helen Reddy and John Denver instead...double UGH!!!

On which chart was that? Kinda hard to be #1 single when it was never released as a single
