WCBS-FM A-Z Weekend Songs played so far

I assume that the coutdown will be posted on wcbsfm.com after it is completed.

It is always welcome to hear some hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s not played in the usual rotation. There are some "oddballs" that I never remembered hearing on WCBS-FM. I suspect that the classic hits format will evolve to play more 80s and less 60s hits. I do expect some 90s music to sneak in. Nothing in this world stays the same including radi stations.

60's ain't going away anytime soon, bay-beee...
if there was a desire for 90's you'd be hearing it somewhere by now

And some stations even do a few '50s here and there.

If you go to the WCBS-FM website they might still have what they played since midnight in case you had to step away and missed something.

Thanks...didn't realize the list is posted for songs played so far...

The music of the 1960s is certainly my favorite, but we all must have to face the realities of the radio business. The audience for 50s and 60s music is already outside of the highly desired 25-54 demographic. So people like myself are undesirable to advertisers. We have internet radio, Sirius/XM and our own CD collections to hear our favorite music.

Many 55+ tune into CBS-FM.....it's just not "official".....They will continue to play 60's and some late 50's to satisfy this "unofficial" crowd, mainly on weekends and during specials, like this wonderful A to Z. The addition of late 80's and some 90's is for the lower end of the 25-54.

By the way, the list is posted on WCBS website. Just look for the A to Z feature on the left side and click the numbered pages below (one letter per page) and you'll get a listing.

Looking at the playlist, it seems like CBS-FM has all but completely distanced itself from the 50's. Not that they've been playing much of that decade in recent years, but they'd usually at least bring a good amount of 50's songs for events like this. This year, there's a few Elvis and Chuck Berry songs in there, but that's about it. Even "In The Still of the Night" was omitted. I guess it was bound to happen eventually. At least there's still some early 60's in there.

Not really a surprise. I guess we should be grateful for the few 50s songs that we still hear.

If "In the Still of the Night" was omitted, then WCBS-FM is following the Jack mentality of "We play what we want to play". There are certain hits of the 50s that are timeless and are enjoyed by people of all ages. I think that CBS-FM has taken this demographics issue a little too far.

When I listen to Cousin Brucie on SiriusXM he regularly gets phone calls from kids as young as 7 years old requesting oldies.

"In the Still of the Night" is still the #1 oldie of all time in the "New York Top 500" survey back in the day. I don't think the 50's ain't going nowhere, but if you want to hear more 50's and early 60's music, you should go up to Poughkeepsie and listen to WGNY-FM's "Fox Oldies" on 98.9. They got Van Ritshie, Buffalo Bob, Bob O and Joe Manglass. CBS-FM plays less 50's or early 60's songs, not all of the songs being heard on "Fox Oldies" at 98.9.

Or if you are in the Hudson Valley listening area, there's "Fox Oldies" on WGNY-FM which is on at 98.9. This station has been on for 4 months since it first hit the airwaves back on February 26th. I can listen to a lot of 50's or early 60's pre-Beatles stuff on there, just like the way it sounded on the old CBS-FM back in the 80's and 90's along with a few doo-wops on there.

You're right, CBS-FM occasionally plays 90's music except for this New York hit "Losing My Religion" by REM. That must be their biggest hit in New York when it was on Z-100. CBS-FM will someday be playing some 90's music including C+C Music Factory, Cece Peniston, Celine Dion, The Offspring, The Real McCoy, Brandy all the way to the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. Ironically, "I'll Be There For You" by the Rembrants was a hit on the radio and it was the theme song to "Friends", I hope CBS-FM should play that someday in the next A-Z Countdown.

It's the end of an era.

That song used to finish No. 1 or close to it for years when WDRC-FM Hartford used to do a listener-voted top 500. That was replaced by an A to Z format three years ago and the Five Satins song has been played every time. However, DRC has gone non-local from 7-midnight as a cost-cutting measure this year (syndicated Tom Kent show) so I'm afraid we've heard the last of A to Z. It took nearly nine days to plow through last time, with only one significant break for non-local must-run content (Charlie Tuna's '70s show on Sundays); interruptions for 25 hours Mon-Fri would probably be too much.

I love DRC; I get them loud and clear in Suffolk County, Long Island, you can hear them in the Hamptons and on Fire Island

It seems to be happening this year too....It's already the 4th (1am) and they are only in the letter N.

CBS-FM is going overtime.....they've got some big letters to play yet (R, S, T..etc..). They should have began this countdown earlier to finish by tonight.

Also, way too many songs are being skipped....just read some of the comments on the A to Z comment section on the main webpage.

Still a great countdown though..

My comment was about the WDRC countdown, but yeah, CBS-FM has to hustle to avoid being stuck doing a Fourth countdown on the Sixth. DRC-FM starts its A to Z the day after Christmas and winds up around Jan. 3 or 4. Two years ago they decided to pad out the list with most of the Christmas library -- "Snoopy's Christmas" sure sounded strange after New Year's Day! Most of the Christmas songs were gone last time around.
