WCBS-FM in New York format change

For those that are interested...longtime oldies outlet WCBS-FM in New York City flipped to the "We play anything" Jack format at 5 PM.

Would this format work in Binghamton?

It couldn't possibly be better than the George Harris oldies station.

There already is one. It's called Magic.

The Jack, Bob, Tom "IPOD" format does't have banter, they don't give you the news or even weather and they usually don't have jocks... just songs, sweepers, stabs and jingles with randomly selected songs.

I listened online to 101.1 Jack-FM yesterday for a few hours, at one point I heard...

No Doubt
Grand Funk Railroad
Duran Duran
Aerosmith
Kelly Clarkson
Abba
No Doubt
Tiffany
Green Day

and my favorite liners (although gutsy) were...

"Need the weather? Look out the window! 101.1 JACK-FM"
"Jack-FM Traffic, who cares?! You're already backed up! 101.1 Jack-FM"

Not sure how that will fly in news, traffic and weather heavy NYC, and I don't like the "we play what WE want" tagline all the Jack's use... personally if I was a regular listener I'd want what I want. Personality, news and weather are things radio can give you that your cd or IPOD can't and when radio abandons that to be nothing but a music server on shuffle it loses to those new forms, because radio has commercials.
