He mentioned during the countdown that there was no "real" Top 40 (CHR) station in NYC at that time - it had been since May 10, 1982 that WABC had changed from a Top 40 (CHR)/more like an AC to talk; it would be until August 2, 1983 that WVNJ-FM Newark would change from beautiful music/soft AC to Top 40 (CHR) Z100/WHTZ. Not mentioned was that WPLJ would gradually change from AOR to Top 40 (CHR) starting on June 29, 1983.
