WCBS-FM TOP 20 COUNTDOWN REMEMBERS 4/12/1968

I'd rather hear "Honey" 10 times, than some of the trash that's out today.

Presented with that choice I'll turn off the radio and read a book.

Hopefully your book is not as depressing as "Honey" :)

Nice to hear "Valley of the Dolls" again, though. #20 this week in '68

"Valley" is a good song and nothing is as depressing as "Honey". I like the rest of Bobby Goldsboro's songs, but I'll always tune out when that one comes on.

Interestingly, Ron Parker mentioned that many people request "Honey", prior to playing it tonight. Any thoughts on "Autumn of My Life" from 1968?

I like "Autumn of My Life". I think one of the problems I had with "Honey" was it was one of those songs that I didn't like to begin with and then it got played to death everywhere. Nobody I knew liked it then. Whenever I was riding around in the car at the time during my senior year in high school we always changed the station when it came on. To this day if it comes on my wife will tell me to turn it off before I can.
I guess we were among the very few that disliked it because it was a gigantic hit.
I like everything else by Goldsboro. My favorite is from the 70s "Summer-the First Time"

ron said that the movie "where angles go trouble follows" was a disney movie??? errrrrrr! it was from columbia pictures! i have the dvd and it's like brand new.love the scene from dorney park.as for the countdown great to hear "tighten up" and "i will always think about you".i can't get "kiss me goodbye" by pet clark outta my mind!!! aaaaaahhh! better than "honey"! next time i go to a record convention i'm buying a 10 cent real scratchy copy of that dang song.

I am so glad I wasn't alive when Honey came out. Horrible, horrible music.

Then again, I too would rather hear Honey than any song currently playing on AMP, NOW, or whatever dumb station with only three letters in its moniker. God I feel sorry for today's kids. (And keep in mind in 1968 you could listen to the Beatles, the Doors, James Brown, Aretha, Booker T, CCR. Honey was the exception, rather than the rule.)

On another topic, though the current host does a decent job, let's hear it for Jeff Mazzei. His detailed and passionate commentaries on the countdowns are sorely missed. I hope he found something worthwhile to do during this recession and isn't working at Denny's or something.

Yeah, I was ONE when it came out, so obviously I don't remember either. I first heard it on KRTH during the number ones countdown in 1985, I believe. Horrible? Well it depends how you analize the song. The story..depressing and sad for sure; the usage of string instruments, very typical for that era. I really enjoy hearing REAL instruments (especially brass and strings) used in pop songs, during the 50's thru the 70's.

Yeah, he was great with his analysis of the Top 20, but Ron is knowledgable too. I didn't care for the finger-mouth pop, when he would do the 101 (point) one.

wait a minute, wait a minute, i gotta jump in on this one... ??? why are you guys even comparing Ron Parker to Jeff Mazzei? two different DJs, two different people - Ron is doing an excellent job...
