WCBS Give Bobby Jay a Show!

What a fantastic show this guy did Sunday night. It sure makes a differnece to have a live DJ with passion, heart, and hand-picked, wide-ranging, GOOD music. How's this for a "hint" set that he played:

"Welcome Back"
"Back Together Again"

and later.....

"Get A Job"
"I Say A Little Prayer" (Warwick version)
"The Wanderer"
"I'm A Happy Man"

CBS-FM needs to give slots to a LOT of good personalities.

Famos Amos, Al Bernstein, Norm N. Nite, Max Kinkel....I can go on. I wish they'd get rid of the obvious flops (Mazzei, Stacey, Parker, etc.).

Oh, and having the station LIVE would be a good thing (trademark) too. ::)

Stephanie - it is obvious that WCBS-FM is trying to save money. The personalities that you mentioned in your post would require high salaries that the station is not willing to pay.

Bruce, that is a very dangerous assumption to make, especially in these times of declining employment. I think you would have to ask the gentlemen in question what they'd be willing to work for; you might be surprised at the reasonableness of their requirements.

Let's put it this way: it's possible to be doing morning drive today for less money than one made as an off-air APD 20 years ago ... and grateful to be, unlike so many talented people in this industry, employed.

It's very nasty out there right now; people who should be out there entertaining the public are instead sitting and waiting for returned phone calls. And anything that adds to the perception of pricing people out of jobs -- before they've even been approached -- must be stopped before it gets started.

Bobby Jay is an airtalent that's too good to be off terresttrial radio in a major market for someone who has ESTABLISHED himself as a success.

Thanks,

I would love to see Bobby Jay return to CBS-FM Mon-Fri 7pm-12am with the specialty's too. And Bobby doing the Top 20 Countdown sunday's from 5-7pm not 10pm when a lot of us are already sleeping so we can get up early for work on a monday morning.

Another fanboy fantasy

Bobby Jay filed a grievance with AFTRA after the first version of CBS-FM became 101.1 Jack FM. CBS corporate cut loose the entire CBS-FM staff with no benefits.

Because of that grievance Jay may be persona non grata.

I'm so glad that Bobby Jay is back to do his show for Sunday night. I missed him all of these years when he was on CBS-FM during the Joe McCoy era where he does his "Hall of Fame" shows such as "Tuesday Night Trivia", "Monday Night 70's", "Thursday Night 60's" and "Friday Night 50's". The best show that was on Friday nights was the "Friday Night 50's" and it plays a lot of 50's songs in the mix.

On weekends, he does the "Top 20 Countdown" for all these years and it was a great show. He also did "Soul of the City" after "Cousin Brucie's Yearbook" and "Jukebox Saturday Night". What a great show.

About 2 years ago, he was on WNEW's "Mix 102.7" when he was doing a radio reunion weekend featuring Joe Causi, Paco and many others.

I missed Bobby Jay so much, so welcome back!

I believe Bobby was the shop steward at CBS, he would have been expected to go to AFTRA.
