Dear CBS-FM listener,

Tuning in to 101.1 FM today, you probably noticed that things sound a little different.

WCBS has changed addresses. Instead of being at 101.1 on FM, the heritage WCBS you know and love now lives here online at wcbsfm.com. Click on the "listen here" banner below to hear the Greatest Hits of the 60's and 70's streamed with all the great music and fun you have come to expect over the past three decades on your radio.

We are very excited about WCBS FM online, and our goal is to have many of the-on air personalities you have enjoyed and loved over the years stream their shows live. We will continue to incorporate many the features and special theme weekends you have come to expect from this great station.

Stay tuned because in the future, WCBS's High Definition (HD radio) broadcast signal will also make it possible to listen to your favorite music and personalities in crystal clear digital sound on your HD Radio. More information on that coming very soon.

101.1 FM is now JACK-FM, and we hope that since you loved WCBS as 60's and 70's, that you will give JACK-FM a try too.

Be sure to let us know what you think of WCBS Online. Thank you for your years of listening to WCBS on the FM band, and now let everyone know that CBS-FM moves into the future by going worldwide. The Greatest Hits of all Time lives on here at wcbsfm.com!

Sincerely,

Chad Brown

Why is "HD Radio" in quotes? I thought another station (in Chicago?) just launched two different formats on one frequency in HD just a few weeks ago. If he even floated the idea of the possibility of the TRUE WCBS coming back as a second HD stream, it should be taken seriously.

Aha!

Infinity is playing the "Coca Cola"/"New Coke"/"Classic Coke" routine.

Take away Oldies ("Coca Cola") and put Jack ("New Coke") on WCBS-FM. Then, when WCBS starts its HD multi-channel tranmissions, put Oldies ("Classic Coke") on the second channel, driving all the Oldies fans to buy HD-capable receivers so they can get their fix.

Hey, it worked for Coca Cola...
______________

Can of Coca-Cola in 1985: 65 Cents
HD Radio: a $hitload more than 65 Cents

apples & oranges, my friend...

HD radios should be available by the end of June 2005 for a SRP of about $249.00 and the one that I've seen is pretty cool! I will be buying one just for the heck of it!

Re: Translation.....

Wow, even in their apologies they have cookie cutters set up. Amazing

Yeah, but you only buy an IBOC radio once per listening location.

Figuring four locations per person, that's what, $400? $500?

If you drink Coca Cola, you will easily spend as much as that or more in a year at $1.00 a pop (a cheap price for a can of Coke today.) That's the rational argument -- but humans don't necessarily act rationally.

It's in Infinity's interest to have twice as many ad minutes to sell per frequency, and they only get that if a significant number of listeners buy IBOC radios. Then need to use some method to pressure listeners into making those purchases.

Anyway, I'm not saying it will work this time as it did in 1985, but that's what Infinity's strategy seems to be, both here and in Chicago.
______________

Hmm, let's see HD 400 bucks for what? About 15 new channels of music - at the most.

Satellite Radio. Getting to the point where it's going to cost you next to nothing and the amount of music channels? Priceless

Can I sell you any Coca Cola? I get a 12 Pack for $2.25. I will sell you all that you want and without any deposit.
