WCBS launches placeholder on 2.2

They could at the very least carry audio of WCBS-AM or WINS in the interim.

Both of those stations have recently moved to their newly integrated offices and studios at Hudson Square. Perhaps soon CBS will reactivate 2.2 and launch CBSNY+.

This on-again, off-again subchannel is back on, this time with an audio tone and screen saver -- just a box moving up and down. Did CBS ever update the programming launch date info? Originally, it was last Fall, then by the end of 2011.

It's conceivable there wasn't an MPEG encoder available yet. (it's possible to add the metadata without the media streams existing)

I went fishing for channel 2-2 the other day, too, when I had discovered for the first time the new location of WASA. I thought it was just how my digital equipment was positioned ("no signal")... so what happened?

I'm confused, what does WASA have to do with WCBS? What is the new location of WASA?

Same here -- also confused about the connection between WASA and 2.2. WCBS' CBSNY+ is back on 2.2, this time with a complete test pattern and not just that box. WASA is where it has been for a long time, on 24-1, 24-2 and 24-3. CBS2 has added another sports anchor, it appears that they are getting ready for more newscasts.

The ID for the WCBS 2.2 channel states: "NEWS, WEATHER, TRAFFIC AND SPORTS" with just a black screen and no sound.

CBS New York + has launched CBS New York + has launched

Programming has begun on channel 2.2

WASA-LD has been known as channel 24 since sometime in the fall of 2010. Before that they were channel 64. They have been broadcasting on actual channel 25 continuously since coming on the air as a digital station.

I am still confused -- the original post referred to channel 2 and WASA:

I don't think there is any connection. Somebody happened to find WASA while searching for WCBS 2-2.

I am sure Cablevision and Time Warner will fight it as it is too close to their News 12 and NY1.

There's really no fight. CBS has the leverage and will get the channel on if they want it...especially when you consider the big picture (WCBS-TV, CBS's cable properties, On Demand content, etc.)

Considering how prior efforts of this type have gone (WNBC, WABC-TV), I'm not all that optimistic that this effort by WCBS-TV will be a huge success.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Considering how many live newscasts every station has now, there is little room for old, recycled news stories repeating throughout the day.

That's true, especially with CBS taking over TV 10/55 and the likelyhood of adding more news there. What will be interesting to see is how breaking news and developing stories are handled by CBS+. Are they going to cover press conferences, etc.? The format they currently use makes it unlikely that any viewer will stick around for more than a quarter hour. The top stories are barely given 4 minutes and are repeated 4 times an hour. When the weathercasters lead into the "local conditions" you sometimes get numbers for areas throughout the tri-state area, other times you just get radar maps. Traffic shows a few camera images without any identification and there is no audio except for a music bed that is not long enough, so that you hear it end and restart. The browser window on the right looks too much like an ad rather than news headlines. I know it is just the first week, however this was to launch last Fall. Certainly with the backing of CBS, one would hope that they come up with something a bit more interesting to hold viewers for more than just 15 minutes.
