One of our erstwhile administrative assistants had his radio tuned to WCBS 880 invariably, but always referred to it as "1010 WINS."… 1010 WINS is a well-established brand that Audacy (or its successor) will be able to use well beyond 2037.
And the fact that WINS is highly directional. It is probably because of WCBS' stronger signal due to its lower frequency.
My bad, I meant all news.News/talk and not just news? You predict there will be no all news radio station in NYC?
What are the current ratings?Sadly Alt isn't doing well. I can see WINS on 92.3 or on 94.7 if it doesn't grow.
Even if Alt isn’t doing great, I would expect Audacy to keep it on 92.3 until they decide what to do to put one of their all newsers on FM.Sadly Alt isn't doing well. I can see WINS on 92.3 or on 94.7 if it doesn't grow.
Audacy would not put an all news station on 94.7. It would be guaranteed to be a worse signal than either AM in the city. That’s not a signal that a top 10 biller would eventually be put on.
if they hadnt just put the block on 94.7, id say all news goes there... country was doing better in the ratings then 92.3 and 94.7 combined.Even if Alt isn’t doing great, I would expect Audacy to keep it on 92.3 until they decide what to do to put one of their all newsers on FM.

That was to make up for extreme AM noise in downtown. The FM is a Class A, but at 1,000 feet ( I corrected my error in saying it was a translator)Isn't that what they did with KYW in Philadelphia?
And it won't in a market in which ever-increasing numbers of residents are essentially hard-wired for rhythmic through cultural background, or have chosen rhythmic because it has a more gut-level appeal than the old, more melodic popular musical genres once preferred by those with their own background.Sadly Alt isn't doing well. And Entercom acquired the FM station 103.9 for KYW so they didn’t have to flip the format of one of their existing Philadelphia FM stations. That was to make up for extreme AM noise in downtown. The FM is a translator.
They have the 5 FM limit with WBEB, WIP, WOGL, WPHI and WTDY so using a Class A that puts a 60 dbu over more than 3 million people is a good addition as that is 60% of the total market. And Entercom acquired the FM station 103.9 for KYW so they didn’t have to flip the format of one of their existing Philadelphia FM stations.
Could Audacy own 103.9 and buy it off Cumulus? And Entercom acquired the FM station 103.9 for KYW so they didn’t have to flip the format of one of their existing Philadelphia FM stations.
You mean News won't on be on 94.7 correct? And it won't in a market in which ever-increasing numbers of residents are essentially hard-wired for rhythmic through cultural background, or have chosen rhythmic because it has a more gut-level appeal than the old, more melodic popular musical genres once preferred by those with their own background.
If they do move news to FM it will be on 92.3 because of the signal. It makes sense.Even if Alt isn’t doing great, I would expect Audacy to keep it on 92.3 until they decide what to do to put one of their all newsers on FM.

If this is to be true it would be like the time KFWB flipped formats and some of its news staff merged with KNX Los Angeles around the time CBS Radio had them. Parts of this is that KNX has a 50kw signal and KFWB has a 5kw signal.Thinking long term, I think that WCBS will be the one to go. WCBS is successful partly because of the CBS brand that is associated with its current call sign. Once the station gives up the WCBS call sign in 2037, would a new brand or a new call sign catch on? On the other hand, 1010 WINS is a well-established brand that Audacy (or its successor) will be able to use well beyond 2037. It would be interesting to see what would be the elements of WCBS that 1010 WINS would adopt.
It was (is) owned by Urban One, not Cumulus. I’ve read different things as to if Audacy now owns the station or if they are operating it under a local marketing agreement. The call letters are still WPHI-FM (which is only briefly mentioned in the legal station ID.Could Audacy own 103.9 and buy it off Cumulus?
The poster is referring to WFAS-FM, formerly WNBM in Bronxville/NYC.It was (is) owned by Urban One, not Cumulus. Which FM frequency would get All News and which AM it would simulcast are fun to speculate about. But who knows how far in the future we're talking? WINS and WCBS-AM were both among the top 10 billing stations in the country last year. As long as that continues, Audacy would rather have an additional profit center on FM with a music station, the current ratings for Alt and The Block notwithstanding. If they do move news to FM it will be on 92.3 because of the signal. It makes sense.
