WCBS & WJMK on Yahoo

I opened up Yahoo and sure enough one of the top stores has to to with WCBS and WJMK flipping to Jack. With the fact that they got this story from AP, it will probably published and reported all over the nation.

To be fair, Jeremy, the entire story has more to do with WCBS-FM switching to Jack. Only a mere sentence in the entire story cites WJMK's switch.<P ID="signature">______________

Chicago Tribune gives the switch a mere blurb...

Rock shock: Oldies yanked

"Goodbye Buddy Holly and the Beach Boys. Hello Duran Duran and Pink.

Chicago's WJMK-FM 104.3 and New York's WCBS-FM aren't spinning oldies any more. The stations, both owned by Infinity Broadcasting, switched formats over the weekend, offering what they are calling "Jack," a mix of hits from the 1970s through the present.

WJMK-FM, now JACK-FM, had aired classic Top 40 for 21 years. WCBS-FM was the nation's top oldies station for more than three decades.

"We . . . found a hole in the market that wasn't being served by any other station," said Chad Brown, WCBS-FM vice president and general manager.

"Youth must be served," said Tom Taylor, editor of Inside Radio. "If you look at a lot of media, older Americans aren't important unless you're selling Craftmatic beds."<P ID="signature">______________

Yes because this format is aimed at the "yoots"? They can't stop falling all over themselves. They can't even get inline on the how's and why's they do what they do. This is classic folks. The slithering of radio. Making up excuses as they go along never once inline with each other's own BS.
