wcbsfm 40th Anniversary in July

they are asking people to call 1-800 367-1101 and if no one answers to listen to recording and record your memory of WCBSFM, My memory is WTC lunchtime concerts with many wonderful DJ's and meeting many of the singers, I met Freddy Cannon there and it was a pleasure, I don"t see him much today, but we do keep in touch!! Growing up with all this music, meeting some was a Dream for me!!! Thanks to WCBSFM for that DREAM!!! :) Rye Playland was another one, Cousin B would be out in the crowd, everyone loved him. I met Linda from there and today we still meet at times :) Those were the Days, today as thing change, I met others. I still love WCBSFM!!! :) Another 40 yrs, I won't be around, but hope the younger generation will love it like I did. :) Happy Anniversary to my #1 station!!! :) CBSSSSSSSSSSSSSS FM!!!

I always enjoyed the Harry Harrison Birthday Book. Harry announced my son's Bar Mitzvah over the air, and we played the tape at his reception.

he never forgot my Birthday either, said my kids also. :) I remember the coupons for the camera, no place near me but they had a place in Pomona NY where my sister lived. They were good cameras, one time, but took great pictures :) Hearing Micky talking today about how he was a DJ on wcbsfm, some people did not like it, but me, he was a favorite of mine and I enjoyed calling him up :) I met him a few times too, nice guy!!! I was looking thru some stuff found old pictures and floppy disk with memories of wcbsfm, sad to say, my computer does not see the floppy disks to download any, maybe I can do some pictures from wcbsfm, but most are put away as many old aircks, those days I was a collector. Any ideas how I can get the floppy disk to see my computer? I am not a computer expert. any ideas are welcome, thanks :)

If your floppy disks are 3.5" type, you can search for a used floppy drive with a USB connector, hook it up to a free USB jack on your computer, wait for the proper drivers to automatically install (assuming you're using Windows OS), then drag and drop the files from floppy to hard disk.

There are so many things I remember about CBS-FM, I hardly know where to start, but the first DJ reunion in 1984, I can remember listening all day and all night the entire weekend, and actually it was the last time I heard Bobaloo on the radio. Harry Harrison's first show in March, 1980 was another time that comes to mind, and Dan Ingram's return to radio in 1991 as well.

Its a shame the station will never be again what it once was in the 80s and 90s.

@Bob1948 - Nothing in this world stays the same. People in the radio business must aid for the coveted 25-54 demographic. At least the management of CBS radio in 2007 realized what a terrible mistake Jack was. I just wish there was time for a Heart of Rock N Roll show once a week.

Or if you want a better oldies station than CBS-FM, why not go up to Poughkeepsie and listen to "Fox Oldies" which is WGNY. That one sounded a lot better than CBS-FM from 40 years ago like you'll hear it today in the Hudson Valley. Poughkeepsie is 75 miles north of New York City. They got some good music with a boat load of pre-Beatles (1955-63) songs thrown in. That's what you'll get, "Fox Oldies" is like CBS-FM on steroids.

Fox Oldies is a good station. I play it or 'CBS-FM off the web, depending on the type of Classic Hits I'm in the mood for.

Ruby anniversaries are the best; are they giving rubies to the listeners?

Re: WCBS-FM 40th Anniversary in July 2012

On Norm N. Nite's website there's a news item stating that he'll be on WCBS-FM on Saturday, July 7th, 2012 from 6pm-8pm as part of the 40th Anniversary weekend.

Thanks for the link, and the involutary audio advisory, PJ!

Those of you craving a good "real oldies" station would have loved Kool 101 in New London, CT - at least up until this month. They dramatically altered their imaging (the "O" word is no longer in their branding) and they're starting to play more 80's music. I think it still sounds okay, since I'm familiar with the new "adds" on the playlist, but it'll take some getting used to on Kool 101.

Re: WCBS-FM 40th Anniversary in July

The WFAN/Sportsradio 66 25th Anniversary is 7/1/12.

The WCBS-FM 40th Anniversary is 7/7/12.

As mentioned in another post on this board (in this or another thread): an unusual occurrence for CBS Radio New York to have 2 notable anniversaries on back-to-back weekends.

Here's who I heard so far that will be on...

Harry Harrison, Don K Reed, Norman Nite, Bobby Jay, Mike Fitzgerald, Cousin Brucie, Ed Baer, Joe Mc Coy...
