WCBSFM-HD2

JUST WONDERING IF ANYBODY ELSE AGREES THAT WCBSFM-HD2 SHOULD BE WHERE THAT STATION SHOULD PLAY 1950-1963 CUTS AND HAVE THE OLD ADVERTISMENTS AND COMMERCIALS RUNNING THERE AND LET JEFF MAZZIE RUN IT. LET'S FACE IT JEFF DID A WONDERFUL JOB KEEPING WCBSFM ALIVE FOR 2 YEARS. BY DOING THIS THEY CAN LEAVE THE NEW FORMAT AS IS WITH A FEW TWEAKS HERE AND THERE.

Right now the True Oldies Channel with Scott Shannon is heard on WPLJ-HD3. I do like the idea of a 50s early 60s station on WCBS-FM HD2, but there are so few HD radios out there. Is it worthwhile for CBS to put money into a station with so few listeners. They obviously would webcast it, but it would hurt the bottom line. It would incur a cost to produce and little if any revenue to show for it.

My guess right now is that the HD stations are basically place-holders. Just put something automated on there and let it sit. Then if HD does catch on, they can quickly ratchet up and turn it into something listenable.

Oldies from the 50's and pre-Beatles appeal to an age group that is not rushing out to buy HD radios. It's pretty much a waste of money for a station to tie up and HD channel with that.

WPLJ runs True Oldies primarily as a favor to Scott to give his channel a claim to a NYC outlet for sales purposes.

Is there any age group rushing out to buy HD radios?

In fact, I'm tempted to argue the hypothetical reverse, i.e. HD radios are A-1 perfect for the geezer demo who've traditionally been associated with Caddy/Lincoln land yachts, etc.

I tend to disagree with you WTUX I believe that there is indeed a following of WCBS-FM listeners that would go out and buy an HD radio just
to have there oldies station back in its former days. I do believe as the signals become stronger on the HD-2 channels and they are tweaked people will invest. Also I remember that when WCBS-FM dropped oldies in 2005 there was such an out pour of anger, and then when they returned all people talked about was how they want to see WCBS-FM return to its original format, but we all know that is not going to happen, so it is only logical that putting WCBS-FM 1950-1963 on HD-2 would make alot of listeners happy.

I didn't realize that Shannon's true oldies was on HD; i suggested this to him a while back, and he basically said, no one owns hd radios

Yeah great,I ran out and got an hd radio for the 70s format they killed for the true oldies channel, and I got burned! Just like Fms in NYC,formats change too frequently!
