WCCM-AM Adding Imus

Some changes are taking place at WCCM-AM 1110 COL Salem, NH and its HD2 FM in Lawrence, MA is announcing that it will be adding "Imus in the Morning" next Monday morning. There are not yet any changes to the station's website, but they are also running business updates with Fox's Neil Cavuto right now. What? Has Doug Stephan been s**tcanned again?

I haven't heard Imus since McCord retired? Can't believe he's still around. Some station needs to add Hendrie.

Parts of the North Shore can pick up WZAN 970 from Portland ME (that big tower on Forest Ave off I-295). They still have Imus (followed by Ingraham, Dennis Miller, Hannity). Have heard Imus voice some localized ads for Portland area businesses.

Imus is 73 now. He was on WEEI till Wolfe got rid of him to put Dennis and Callahan (IIRC) in the slot; Imus was picked up by WTKK 96.9 where he ran for years. After the infamous Rutgers bit (part of which is a soundbite Phil Hendrie throws in whenever he mentions Don), I think the show was taken off flagship WFAN and WTKK threw Michael Graham into the slot. Howie Carr made fun of all this by calling 96.9 "WTKKK" (Apr of 07?)...months later Howie let it slip that he had signed with 96.9 and we remember what happened later. Anyway, Howie would have inherited the Imus slot by 10/1/07, it was thought, at 96.9...but didn't. WTKK picked up the I-man
(flagship WABC now) again but later demoted him to one or two hours before finally putting Jim and Margery full time in that slot.
Then the talk format disappeared, etc.

I believe WJAR in Prov. was his first Syndi station. At that time (the G Bush Adm?) his show was good with Charles McCord, Breen, McGuirk, Rob, et al.

The hot story (during his syndi start) was Justice Thomas/Anita Hill. It was probably the best morning network show ever (for a few years).

Not even close to Stern's ratings but quite influential: he got almost any guest he wanted.

And then came The Imus Ranch for Kids with Cancer with its incessant fundraising and promotion which made the program unlistenable and was the reason it was dropped by WEEI. Yes, Don......you're a charitable guy.....we get it.....how about coming up for air..

Regards,
TSB

I really don't understand why Cumulus renewed his contract. You can't understand a word he is saying. A few months ago I gave a ride to a friend of mine and while I was waiting for them to come out I gave the AM dial a spin and heard Imus on Beethoven 1290 the Classical Station in Hartford, Connecticut and IMUS sounds just like a duck. Anyway IMUS or Classical Music on 1290 either way they're not airing anything younger than 300 years old on that station. LOL.

This very morning, Wednesday 11/6, the day after election day, WCCM-AM 1110/102.9 FMHD2 lost any local association it might have had a 6:00 am (before the AM half SHOULD HAVE BEEN-ON-THE-AIR at all) by taking Fox News Radio's TOH feed at six o'clock straight-up and then an instantaneous segue to Imus in the Morning. Not a syllable about the contentious election results in Lawrence. Imus opened the show by declaring that he was "sick as eleven dogs" but came into work anyway. Great start for a morning show!

Some on here like the syndie stuff instead of local... but live & local of course is the way to go, if you can. Maybe if the
election is certified for Rivera, they can grab Lantigua off the waiver wire!

970's tower is actually in Scarborough off Route 1; the Forest Ave. tower is for 1490 WBAE "The Bay," currently running a nostalgia format.

Thanks for info about the tower on Forest Ave; yes, I see now on radio-locator that 970's is just off the Scarborough Connector and yup re: WBAE. I thought stations to the left or middle of the dial tend to have taller towers and this one seemed fairly tall. Doesn't something like a 1490 need a shorter tower; well whatever.
