WCCO Dean Spratt Dies

For those who listened, we lost Dean Spratt about three weeks ago from a heart attack. He made an impact on the w0kie radio network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W0KIE ) and in my own life. I enjoyed talking to him in my Ventrilo server as well as IRC.

They even started Obituaries for him: http://dean.cband.info

You can read some of the blogs from another show host: http://www.recnet.com/

Heres the official story:

Veteran Traffic Reporter Dean Spratt Dies

http://www.wccoradio.com/pages/187944.php?contentType=4&contentId=293527

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday for former WCCO Radio traffic reporter, Dean Spratt. He died Saturday at the age of 54 after a stroke a few days earlier. Dean was the first on-air traffic reporter in the Twin Cities when he joined WCCO radio in 1981. He drew national attention not only because of his reporting.....but because he was blind since birth. Interviewed a couple of years ago on WCCO Dean said he was "blessed" to have worked in radio since many blind people do not have that opportunity. In addition to his traffic reporting Dean was a musician and had a weekly music show on the internet. He also was a big sports fans including NASCAR.

Funeral services will be at the Church of the Epiphany Roman Catholic Church in ------ Rapids at 2 p.m. Wednesday with visitation one hour prior to the service. The church is located at 1900 111th avenue Northwest in ------ Rapids.

Foe Paw's reply was meant to clarify where Mr. Spratt's services are taking place. His response is in no way meant as a racial slur but rather as a workaround for a word that unfortunately has had to be placed in our language filter. Foe Paw should be thanked for his diligence and dedication to our site.

Radio-Info offers its heartfelt condolences to Dean Spratt and his family. His loss represents a severe blow to the radio community.

Yup. He will be missed on the w0kie radio network as well.

Just a correction, Dean died from complications after suffering a stroke a week before.
