WCFN the Fan

It has been nearly four months since the Fan (WCFN) has hit the air. Is this enough time to post a scorecard on the station?
What are they doing right and what are they doing wrong. What are your thoughts on All Sports CBS?

Before there are any comments about it remember it takes time to build a station - that's true.
But Radio One is not a patient company. If your station is not making money how much time will they give them?

I made comments based on the basics of radio programming that they started off on the wrong foot in some areas and have had trouble getting back on track.
Tom Gamble hiring was a plus. BUT -CBS is still trying to find its grove. The act of adding Cyclones and Miami sports was not for programming it was for a quick buck. Not a smart move..

They have other ways of making money that they may be of interest to the audience and to the advertisers as well. You can make money with this format but do they have the right people in place selling it.

I want them to do well and hope Radio One gives them the time to make it happen.

What is your input?

The station needs to do as much local programming as possible and deal with local teams and topics. There are already too many stations picking up national feeds who talk and talk and talk about things in other parts of the country. While some of that can be of interest - depending on the event and the time of year - local coverage can help make the station more exclusive.

The station also needs advertisers if they are to survive. I only hear Dickman's Sports Bar promotions at night when I listen the most. Everything else I hear is filler, the same old PSA's over and over. They do have a good presence on Social Media so they are getting the word out about a station and frequency that few people may not have known about.

With Kentucky Speedway opening again in a few weeks, maybe they could have a NASCAR show on the weekends.

Shoot, 1160 had more paid advertisers. It is a slow build and they should be doing lots of outdoor media.
