WCFO 1160 upgrades programming

Starting Monday NewsTalk 1160 is changing most of their schedule due to picking up the rights to Laura Ingraham, Dennis Miller and Bill O'Reilly. Mancow's Morning Madhouse stays in the 6-9am slot, Laura Ingraham joins to take on the 9-noon slot bumping Dr. Laura to Noon to 3pm (all Laura weekdays 9am to 3pm) Bill O'Reilly takes on the 3-5pm slot and then Dennis Miller is aired 5-7pm leading into Lou Dobbs who moves to 7-10pm, Jerry Doyle is on 10p-!am and then Phil Hendrie moves to a live clearance from 1 to 4am. This means Joy Browne is out and Dr Laura loses an hour and Phil Hendrie gets all 3 of his hours back in local talk radio. Talker Bruce Williams and Computer America loses its weekday time slot. Now with 3 competitors WSB still dominates the local ratings and WGST, WGKA or WCFO will not hurt them but it is nice to a variety of talk shows all 4 talk stations offer.

This has been on their website for a while. They need to upgarde the signal if they want to upgrade something. So Phil Hendrie is on when they are 160 watts.

Their stick is in Austell. I wonder if they could upgrade their night signal to directional east?

When Corey owned it, they had a CP to build a separate night site with more power. But it was never built. I doubt it would be worth the expense.

Where was it?

I think it would be worth it if, and only if, they could get a good night signal over the northern suburbs (Cobb/Cherokee/north Fulton/Forsyth/Gwinnett). Then they could give WGST, Zone, WGKA, and Fan a run for their money.

I wonder if it would be possible for someone else to put an additional transmitter on the Radio Disney tower array in Powder Springs...that would be a good location for directional east.

I think it was outside of I-285 south of Paces Ferry. I don't remember the wattage; think it was around 2,300 watts. AM Lover might know.

I think the night signal for 1160 when Corey owned would be in Vinings but only could do 400 watts or so. Not worth the expense of building. Plus he a a hard enough time finding land to build the current site. Originally I believe he wanted to be near White Water Park but could not get zoned for the towers.

He could have done 2500 with three towers if I'm not mistaken and the 400 watts would have been if he had kept some towers in East Point but a school took over the land reason for the move then going 50,000 watts day taking 1170 in Cumming dark which of course he did.

And we who live in the Cumming area, stand tall with pride everytime we listen to the award winning programming of WCFO, knowing that this great achievement could only have happened through our great sacrifice. ::)
