WCFO col question

That is where the transmitter site is located. This is an AM daytime with special night time flea power authority (love those technical terms). For this station, the rules apply to the daytime signal.

If the station had a 24 hour license, such as WGST, WAOK, WCNN, or WSB, then the rules would apply to the day and night signals.

Basically, there is more flexibility in the rules because of the issues AM radio has at night. One of our resident engineering types could probably chime in if you need a more technical answer.
 
The WCFO transmitter is not in East Point, but it used to be. It's now in the Austell area, but it covers East Point with a city-grade signal.

I believe--and someone like Taylor could correct me--the daytime coverage is all that matters in WCFO's case when it comes to COL. That's because WCFO is really a daytime station. A number of years ago, the FCC informed every AM daytimer of how much power it could put out at night without interfering with any other station. That started stations staying on at night with flea power, but they're still really daytime stations.
 
Unless they changed the rules, that would be incorrect.

Many years ago, WERA Plainfield New Jersey had to change it's COL after it got some nighttime coverage. It had been a strict daytimer for years. It changed from Plainfield to South Plainfield because their night signal did not cover Plainfield with a city-grade signal. But, again, that was many years ago and my recollection could be off.
 
Secondchoice is correct. Class D stations like WCFO are only required to cover (most of) their COL during the day.
