WCGA SILENT

fwillis said:
I've noticed that WCGA Woodbine/St.Simons Island has been off the air for the past month or so.

And this is a shock why? The owner of the station has been trying to sell or LMA the station. It is a great stick and I passed on it since he operates it from inside his house. I think it would be a great station to own if you moved the studios into town in Saint Simons. I would buy it but I have this station I am in the process of acquiring here . I know the owner had a cash flow problem. Maybe you should reach out to him, it might be worth your while...

I just got an email from the owner of WCGA. He wants to sell the stick. Now get this, the selling price for this silent 10kW Daytimer is priced at $1,250,000.00

Does that seem a bit high? Especially for a station with no formal studios or offices? Maybe the 1 should be deleted from the equation...

Now, if the station includes the land which the house sits on that houses the studio that would be a different story, that would not be a bad deal for land on Saint Simons Island...

Cox has gone up a quarter of a mil since I inquired about WCGA 6 years ago. He said someone would come along and pay him 1mil so they could move the station to Jax. I want some of what he's smokin.

I think he smokes the kudzoo that grows wild all over his property. Next thing before you know it the price tag will be up to 2 million, which in his eyes will be a bargain for a 10kw daytimer,LOL

Dude, Wesley Cox may not have a good handle on his figures, but this public forum is not the place to be dragging him through the mud. WJEPPD, do you not have a group of people doing the same thing to you that you have had banned from this board?

I never mentioned his name, others may have. I am not dragging anyone thru the mud, I wish him the best of luck in selling the station, I just thought the price was a bit steep...

Anyone hear any updates if WCGA is back on the air yet? Is it still for sale?

Although moving the station to Jacksonville may sound like a good idea, the truth of the matter is the technical and legal issues that would play into such a move. For one thing, WCGA is licensed as the ONLY local radio service to Woodbine, Georgia. The second is, unless a power increase is possible, it doesn't appear the WCGA tower can move close enough to Jacksonville to throw a city grade signal over that market and still maintain the required city grade over city of license, that being Woodbine. That leaves changing the city of license to a community closer to Jacksonville, assumming moving the tower can be done without causing problems for other stations. With a COL change, the owner would need to find a substitute frequency, either AM or FM, to assign to Woodbine as a substitute for 1100 Khz that would be moved.

Another way of saying it is it will be costly for anyone to pay $1.25 million to acquire the license and then move everything to the Jacksonville market, even if such a move is technically possible.
