WCGQ (107Q), Columbus Airchecks 1975 & 1977

Dare I say that the Smoker aircheck was just a stunt?

BTW: Extra credit goes to those that heard the voice of Bill Lenky aka. Bill Lee (of WTIC-FM, KFRC, WQHT, etc.) on this check. Didn't know that he worked at WCGQ, although he did work around the Atlanta area before heading north.

Wow, I have been out of that market for some time now, I actually grew up listening to the legends of Al Haynes, Shelby Guest THE Man Lee "Baby" Mccard, Mark Ross, Bear O' Bryant, and Brian Waters, Alan "Quinman" Quin, Robert Cunningham, who later taught me some broadcasting skills. These people were larger than life for me and most later became dear friends. I remember the days of the battle of the Q and Kiss. The Kevin Gardner Weekend Hot Mix. I spent the 80's getting my music from there before cutting my teeth on the microphones of the old studio on Warren Williams Rd. There is a lot of great friends and memories for me at that point on the dial and here I am so so far away from home. However as all alumni from the Q know "The smoker" was a legend in his time in that market for a while. I would appreciate any updates and news or information on where to go for old airchecks of "The Q".
Thanks

Hi, I just listened to the Smoker. That was a WILD clip! While enjoying the clip, [glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300][/glow]I noticed that WCGQ was @ 107.7 at that time. When did they change frequencies to 107.3 as they are today?[/glow]

I'd say it's a typo on the ID tag. For WCGQ to have been at 107.7 is impossible -- Columbus is too close to Birmingham, which has a full-power there (the old WENN-FM). WCGQ has always been 107.3.

I tend to agree with Robyn, it sounds too over-the-top to have actually aired.
