WCGY...WBCN

With all the chatter about WBCN's demise and the final song they played, anyone remember what WCGY's final song was??
Just a little trivia here.
What about final songs from other format flips??

When Eagle 93.7 became Star (or some other such format flip) they had Prince's "1999" playing over and over.
Finally at the appointed time, right after the lyrics, "Daddy? Why does everybody have a bomb" there was a bomb
sound effect and they went into GAP Band "You Dropped the Bomb On Me"

When WCLB, later WKLB, started I think it was with Alabama's "Here We Are"

I remember the day WVBF ("Boston 105") flipped to country (CLB? KLB?) ... they were playing quick sweepers with Loren and Wally and a drumroll "Today at 5pm, WVBF Boston 105 becomes... a thing of the past."

I forget who the final jock was but after a traffic report (there was a snow storm that day, and it was approaching the 5:00 rush hour), I.I.R.C. the final song WVBF played was "Small Town" by John Mellencamp. The final thing the jock said before going to break was "I'm ________, take care, and I'll see you around the campus" (???) Went to a break... and came back at around 4:50pm with a 10 minute "feature" hosted by Loren and Wally going through the history of WVBF and then after a quick montage of WVBF Dj's from the past (including Uncle Dale, Sunny Joe White, Tom Doyle, Delilah, etc. etc.), the duo introduced "Boston's Country Club"... played an extended Country Club jingle... then Legal I.D. with the new calls. Can't quite remember what the first country song was though.

The first song on the new Eagle 93-7 was BTO's "You ain't seen nothin' yet". The WCGY calls stayed on the frequency for two more months.

This says the WVBF flip to WCLB was on Feb 12, 1993. I do remember it was a snowy day

http://bostonradio.org/stations/1919

This says Eagle gave way to Star 93.7 on 4/1/99
The same page says "WCGY became 70s/80s rock “Eagle 93.7” on September 30, 1994"

I remember I went to an afternoon showing of the Albert Brooks movie "The Scout" on that day. By the time the
movie ended and I got back to my car the new format was already up and running. I wouldn't have known about
the first song being BTO as the flip occurred while I was in the theatre.

Eagle did become Star on April 1, 1999. They started playing "1999" sometime during the evening of March 31 or the early hours of April 1. I have the aircheck (on cassette) of the the last 15 minutes of "1999" and the first 75 minutes of the new Star 93.7.

Question on the WVBF switch to WCLB: Sunny Joe White left WZOU sometime around spring/summer of 1992. After that he went over to WVBF. Did he host afternoons or evenings? (I thought it was afternoons, but 17 years later, my memory could very well be failing me!) And wasn't he still on WVBF when the change happened? Wasn't he the last jock heard on WVBF prior to the switch? Also, for some reason, I actually thought he stayed on for a short while after the format change...again, my memory could be failing me.

"Boot Scootin' Boogie" by Brooks and Dunn. "Today's hottest country music, Boston's Country Club 105.7 FM"

His show came on at 7pm. Afternoons had the Girls Club with Janet "From Another Planet" Bates and Karen "Amazing" Grace.

He was on evenings. "The White Night" was the name of his show...

I believe he had already departed the station for WILD prior to the flip...

"WCLB... Boston's Country Club." Wow, what a creative positioner. Can't imagine why that didn't last.

"Boston....Country"... goes together about as good as "Pork....Grape".

Believe it or not country has done well here lately, with WKLB getting strong ratings and some Kenny Chesney
concerts (though he may be closer to rock/younger audience appeal) setting records. True, the only country
station in town but it hasn't exactly flopped.

Go to the ratings page of this site. WKLB ranks 5th overall, behind Kiss, BZ, Magic, and Jam'n. Boston and Country
may go together well after all.

I got tape of the flip. Swear it's Kinks. will have to dig out now. Also I thought it was late at night..midnight, not afternoon.
