WCHE's Jay And Randy Show Move To Middays

Beginning December 1st, The Jay and Randy Show on WCHE 1520AM West Chester will be on middays from 10AM-2PM. The main reason for the move according to Randy is that the signal is stronger during the midday especially during the Winter months.

I think this is a pretty bold move for these guys to do this. I think he might lose the few faithful who call in before 10, but possibly gain some new listeners tuning in after 12. I know CHE isn't really cracking the ratings, but my question to some of you older radio guys is has there been a show that did something like this, and came out for the better? Just wondering.

Programs moving to a different daypart have their own reasonings behind them.

One recent case in Philadelphia was when the syndicated Don & Mike show on WYSP - who had been in afternoon drive for many years - decided to move to middays to accommodate Opie & Anthony, another syndicated show that was in afternoon drive at the time. From what I understand, D&M's ratings actually were a little better - possibly being sandwiched between Stern and O&A may have contributed to that some, but I digress. Then when O&A were cancelled, D&M retained afternoons not just in Philly, but on all of their stations, as well.

Even Stern and O&A themselves have moved dayparts - from afternoons to mornings - gradually, if not instantly. But as far as a show that switched to a drive time period to middays, the bext example I can give you is Don & Mike.

I'm thinking another reason could be to get away from morning critical hours where they'd get knocked around by WWKB and the Saudi on 1521. The Saudi 2,000,000 watt signal puts a screaming 1 kHz het on both stations in the late afternoon.

But how many folks other then radio geeks really notice that het or even care?

Right. I think during this time of year they get annoyed with calls from 7:30-9AM of people saying "Well, I can't hear what you guys are talking about, but I want to talk about..."
