WCHL 1360 Chapel Hill Sold

Does anyone think this will have any kind of an impact in the Chapel Hill area?

WCHL is a pretty good example of a station that super-serves it's community and as long as that continues, I don't see a problem

It's about time for Jim Heavner to retire, so I hope this is a good move for everyone involved.

I'll be curious to see if the current mix of syndicated progressive talk (Air America, Stephanie Miller, Rachel Maddow, etc.) continues. When Heavner bought the station back from Curtis he had a LOT more local content on it than he does now. Economics being what they are, I'm not surprised that it didn't last.

As to the studio location, I'm sure Vilcom is getting more in rent from the current tenants than would be affordable for a stand-alone AM station serving a hyper-local market segment like Chapel Hill, even in the best of economic situations.

I don't look for that situation to change anytime soon, but it would be nice.

Later . . . .

the guy who bought it has a good track record.
Chapel Hill/Carrboro will support local radio.
this has a really good chance to work.
if it doesn't....NO LOCAL radio has one.
chance, that is.
