WCIN's NEW SIGNAL!

I tuned in on the way home to Florence today and what a difference! I live near US 42 and Pleasant Valley Road and 1480 used to be a DEAD channel here. It's as loud as 1360 now and the signal meter is pumping. The audio still has that muddy/distorted sound, but if that can be improved this will be a decent signal. I'll have to wait until after 8:45 to give you an update on the night pattern here. But, so far so good. I knew Mr. Stitt could get this sounding good.

Lost it after 8:00

I don't know what the actual situation is with the night signal, but if WCIN was still running the 4500 watts as of 8:00 pm, it was pretty bad. The signal had a lot of "grass growing underneath it" as AM tends to do during Critical Hours. It was completely gone during the nigttime hours around 10:00. It was still audible, but unlistenable right at sunset around 8:45. Any reports from the north, east, or west?

In the Blue Ash/Sharonville area the WCIN signal is great during the day - the best ever!At night it's completely dead - covered over by other distant stations. Before the tower upgrade WCIN's signal was fairly decent. Maybe northeast Hamilton County is not in the direction or the prime target for night coverage?

Are they running the night signal during the day today? It sounds nothing like it did last evening here in Florence. It's equivalent to WMOH today at 9:54 am. Last night it was strong around 7:00. The signal seems consistent with the nighttime map on Radio-Locator. Stronger in Florence, but real bad down I-75 between Kyles lane and Erlanger.

Late last Sunday night, they were putting a very good signal into the Monfort Heights-White Oak area on the northwest side of town, so much so I wondered if they were still running on their daytime powerwell after sunset.

During the day WCIN is coming in great. My favorite radio (my trusty Grundig S350) is getting its antenna repaired at RadioShack, so I just have a Sony Walkman and an AM loop antenna. When I had the Sony tuned to 580, WCIN was coming in because the signal was so strong.

Signal is pretty listenable up to 9:00 tonight. I'm next to the computer, so it's ringing, but the signal and audio are dominant on the channel. It's now just after 9:00 and I'm not sure if they've switched to night pattern yet. Still sounds good if that's the night pattern that is supposed to be on 1480.OK...here's an edit. They just flipped to night pattern at 9:04. Still listenable, but quite a bit weaker and more background noise. The riniging of the computer monitor is pretty loud now. Still a MAJOR MAJOR improvement from what it was even on Glenwood Avenue. If I get the chance to drive it, I'll check it out on the KY side. I'm sure you can't wait for the report!

Last night - same radio, same place, same time - lousy, weak signal.I also noticed earlier in the day that WCIN's day time signal was weak in the samelocation, about on par with 1450 WMOH.

Don't know what the heck's going on with the signal. One day it's great, the next it's the same crappy signal. Wish someone would let us - please - know (a.) when the technical testing will be done (b.) will the strong signal ever be back - for good or (c.) was it all a dream and we were somehow fooled?

The strong signal for WCIN has persisted for over 24 hours. Maybe this is the real thing?
The signal change is really noticable in both the northern (Butler Co.) and southern (Florence) suburbs.
Now, let's talk possible format for the new (potential) owners of the 1480 signal.
My money is on (a.) gospel (b.) jazz-traditional WNOP style.
Note: If what I have read is fact, then WCVG is going to Davidson Group and we all know what that means....aye carumba!

WCIN's signal last night was great. It was sounding better than WSAI and I could actually hear what the singers were saying.

The night signal in Kentucky is not as good as the Radio-Info map suggests. I didn't get a listenable signal until I was on the cut in the hill at 5:20 this morning. I could hear it in Florence at about 5:05, but it wasn;t listenable or consistent. Last evening it was tough to judge because of the lightning, but it wasn't quite as loud as WSAI around 7:30 in Union.

By the way, I don't believe the WCVG deal is done. Anything could still happen.

WCIN supposedly got their license renewed in March 2006.

Does anyone know what the licensed daytime/nighttime powers are?

How about it, darksoldier?

Turned on 1480 this evening at 7:23 and was hearing Ronnie Milsap and thinking what the. Then they ID as WHBC in Canton. Had a very good signal. This was in Highland Heights near NKU. First time I thought to check out WCIN's new signal. Kind of a bust if that is as good as it gets.
