WCIT To Talk?

Web site still shows oldies radio, but hints something new in the offing re talk. Friend was up Lima way and said they were talkin today.

Somehow after a year and a half of Lima's Greatest Hits I had a sneaking suspicion it would happen sooner or later. One is that there was only one real DJ which was morning man/program director Phil Austin...Talkmaster Ron Williams was the only other live voice in the afternoons...perhaps this was used as an indicator or as a backup plan in case the oldies format didn't succeed...either the local Limalanders prefered oldies or an alternative to arch-conservative talker WIMA. I might add (through I don't care for talk radio) that Ron Williams does a great job offering the local Lima residents to speak out on local issues. Williams for the most part does not rant or use rhetoric-based jargon as does Rush,Beck or the like...it's a home-grown thing.

I will definately miss the oldies and the Gordy Price tribute page on its website...but I do wish WCIT well.

Yeah, they flipped to talk. The rumors starting circulating back in late August/early September that it was going to happen...and I agree with the previous poster that made the comment about the only jock (really) on the air was Phil Austin. Once Phil was moved to Delphos to take over WDOH from the previous PD (which my memory is sort of fuzzy on when EXACTLY that was that he took it over, though it was a few months ago), that was pretty much the writing on the wall for 'CIT as an oldies format.

I will commend Maverick though (for once) that at least this time around, they didn't spin the format wheel halfway through a book. However, if they're going to make this particular format work (especially going up against WIMA as they are trying to do), they need to at least put some effort into it. Even though WIMA isn't the beast it once was, it's still the heritage talker and people know it's there. When they (Maverick) changed format at 'CIT from oldies to talk, they didn't advertise it and throw a big party like they did when they flipped it the last time. So, brand awareness is very minimal right now for them.

Granted, I will give this some time and see if it can actually fly in good ole' conservative and traditional Lima...but, I get the feeling though that in about 18-24 months (give or take a month or two) that we'll be right back here discussing they're format wheel spinning AGAIN.
I wish them luck, but they have a HUGE uphill battle on their hands against 'IMA!

It will be tough to build any kind of audience with WIMA doing talk. They are doing things right just like WKRC in Cincinnati with a local morning show and 'A' network tak shows for the rest of their line up. WCIT's will put on the type of netweork shows that 1160 in Cinc has and will make no real dent.

In order to do it right they wll need to commit to a local morng show with noon and afternoon news blocks. They will also have to establish a strong base of doing H.S. sports.

I undersand they have a challenge with their signal but they make more money with oldies than going talk,. They could have built a stronger audience base and bring on more revenue with some programming improvements.

Ron Willaims is still the afternoon talkmaster. I heard a sattellite program originating from Atlanta in roughy around 1 in the afternoon.
I'm guessing here it's mostly sattellite programming for talk.

It's been a talk format since January.

That would be Neil Boortz.

Indeed, WCIT flipped to talk back on January 10, but no one from Maverick bothered to tell the people at StreamTheWorld. The pop-up media player still shows the previous logo, and liners and promos for "Lima's Greatest Hits" still air on the webstream (masking the commercial breaks that air on AM/940)... ::)

OHHHH....BRUDDAH!

C'mon Maverick Lima,at least get the guy who does the Lima Bargain Center TV commercials to voice some new liners or SOMETHING!

The Operations Manager of Maverick Media Of Lima is Dave Crosser

What is the talk line up of WCIT? It is very poor planning on the part of the management to debut a new format and we are still waiting on the website. The idea today is to drive your listeners as much as you can to make it your second radio station (WEBSITE) and give vaue to it so it will serve as a solid revenue stream.
