WCJK Nashville Uses A Different Jack-FM Voice?

All the Jack-FM stations in the U.S. and Canada use the voice of either Howard Cogan, the original guy, or Andrew Anthony, who also voices the GEICO commercials. But I'm listening to KCJK 96.3 on the iHeart app. Jack's voice is done by someone else.

He's doing the same quips and making the same Jack-FM self depreciating remarks. But it's another voice that I haven't heard on other Jack FM stations. Is it someone working in Nashville, employed by Midwest Communications, the station's owner?

You can't argue with success. WCJK is usually the #1 station in Nashville. This month it's a close #2 behind co-owned WJXA Mix 92.9. But it's safe to say WCJK is the most successful of the Jack-FM stations in the ratings. (WQSR Baltimore comes close, usually #2 or 3 in those ratings.)

I’d only ever heard H Cogan on any Jack station before, but I noticed recently the new 96.3 Jack FM in Austin has a different voiceover guy too. It’s not Cogan, but it might be Anthony, idk.

Are you sure you’re not streaming the Austin Jack? They’re also on 96.3 (KJFK. It’s a translator fed by an AM & is co-owned by the group that runs Triple A Sun Radio.

Last I checked (might still be the case), WCJK was using David Kaye. He's best known as the VO for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and lots of other stations. I know all of Nashville's imaging is written in-house locally.

Interesting! I wonder, why does WCJK go through that expense in Market #40? The quips sound the same as other Jack-FM stations except for a few Nashville-centric lines. Yet, you say Midwest Communications has people writing their own Jack remarks and David Kaye voicing the quips. Meanwhile Alpha Media, which owns 102.7 KJXK San Antonio, doesn't even get a customized Jack in Market #25. It runs the national Jack-FM, same as small markets.

From what I've heard, stations in the top 50 markets are supposed to get Jack-FM tailored to their communities with San Antonio as the only exception. The Jack-FM writers will knock out a few lines centering on your city if you are in Market 50 or bigger.

And to BRH's question... yes, I hear the Nashville commercials on KCJK. It's the only 96.3 Jack I find on iHeart. The Austin Jack-FM isn't there. I haven't checked if Austin's Jack-FM is on Audacy.com, or you can only hear the feed on the station's website. San Antonio's Jack-FM is on both apps, iHeart and Audacy.

Alpha would switch San Antonio to the national feed in 2016 as a cost-cutting move. Others like Cumulus' translator in Kansas City and the new one in Austin have followed suit, but with Storq IP distribution there are differences in the clock.

Midwest went the opposite direction. All five of their Jack's (Nashville, Knoxville, Kalamazoo, Fargo and Appleton) are on custom logs.

Both 102.5 in Kansas City and 98.5 in Topeka KS are running Jack FM and use the same voice as each other. Might be Andrew.

So it's Google Chrome? I think it's the site. I don't have any special addons installed, yet everytime I visit it I see the same stories as before, and I have to delete my cache again. Is there an RSS feed?

I agree. I have the same issue. Something did change recently and it's impacting what you see when you load the RadioInsight page. I am not seeing this with other sites. It may have been a Chrome update. It would appear Chrome is no longer pulling the page updates and is only showing the cached pages. As a workaround, I hit the the circle with the arrow near the URL at the top of the page to reload the page which then shows the updated content. You can also hit CTL+F5 for a reload.
