With the Eddie & Jobo trying out on WCKG and as a possible replacement for Howard Stern wouldn't you think that maybe a new format for WCKG might not be far behind. I have an idea of a format that would work well with Eddie and Jobo and nobody is doing it. How about a station that plays nothing but music from the 90's sort of what B-96 sounded like back then. Maybe add a few more dance, techno, old school rap tracks. Throw in a few tracks from the late 80's. also make sure to broaden the playlist and not play the same 200 songs over and over like WNND did.

I DOUBT IT! I can't see that happening at all. Everybody is thinking CKG is going to flip, I don't see that at all. I think Infinity is very happy with CKG. Otherwise they would of flipped it a while ago. CKG bills very well for them, it may be low on the ratings scale, but what FM talks are high on the rating scale? I don't really see E&J moving to CKG either. It doesn't fit with the mantra of 105.9.

How about Mike North doing mornings on CKG?

Love the format idea. Throw in some pop tunes maybe a dash of rock, make it a 80s/90s CHR, kind of a combination of XM's 80s and 90s channels.

I realy don't think that CKG has much choice - Howard is leaving and it looks like they are getting desperate to find a replacement. They could play music during morning drive????

Well, North has the guts to say what he feels, just as Stern does. I think he may fit better than some give him credit for.

Might WCKG-105.9 become a "mainstream" talk station??

They already broadcast Bill O'Reilly (but not live); and WCKG parent Infinity has signed Jay Severin, of Boston's WTKK-96.9 to do a nationally-syndicted talk show starting in January.

But Bill is essentially the only mainstream host on WCKG. Adding John & Jeff and Loveline were not exactly "mainstream" moves. And the day-old Jim Cramer, I don't think that anyone knows what their plans are if they want to remain talk.

It could happen - The Score message board thinks Eddie & JoBo are headed for WSCR in place of Mike North; ergo, North goes to WCKG.

I've been thinking lately that sooner or later, someone will have to start doing mainstream news-talk on FM. Part of the reason that public radio's been having ratings success in drive times, including WBEZ here (which is hard to initially see since Arbitron separates non-com figures), is because they're the only place on FM to get news/weather/traffic in drive at dependable times, if not as frequently as the AM stations. (The funny thing is that I can imagine that for more Stern listeners than you might think, 'BEZ's the button they go to during those infamous 20-minute breaks.) I would think that an FM news-talker that did the traffic and weather frequently and consistently, particularly in drive time, could get an audience, with so many people not even having AM on their radar anymore.

You got it uncamark!

You got it Uncle!! If 'CKG did News and traffic during those LOOOONG comercial breaks at the top and bottom (even on Stever's shift), they would sound more proffessional. Say what you will but when the FM LOOP was hot talk in the mid nineties, they would do news and traffic and it sounded like a real station. WCKG is a crappy hodge-podge.

We know they bill well because of the morning and afternoon drive shows -- which are both the best talk shows on radio. But they might as well have dead air for the other 14 hours. And that sucks for people that don't commute 9-5. It's an insult to the listener.

In the weeks after 9/11, most FM's did news at the top and bottom and it was great. Obviously the events surrounding it were not.

We will know in 90 days what the future holds for good old G-106. But who knows? They are a big mess.

Still, WBBM is the station to listen to for traffic and weather. You can hear it every 10 minutes even in non drive times, so I don't think an FM doing it at the top and bottom of the hour will stop people from listening to AM when they can get that stuff more often over there.

Since when is O'Reilly "mainstream"?

In terms of talk radio, O'Reilly is in the mainstream of their hosts. Al Franken is out of the mainstream (granted, David Duke or any over racist would be out of the talk radio mainstream, as well, but I think sometimes that if they could get away with it, a talk PD would put on an out-and-out racist if he could get ratings).
