WCKL going back on the air?

I was looking throught the latest broadcast actions on the FCC site (I couldn't sleep and this is like warm milk) and noticed that someone is trying to get WCKL back on the air in Catskill.

AM STATION APPLICATIONS FOR RENEWAL GRANTED
-------------------------------------------

NY BR-20060201AKJ WCKL 63526 BLACK UNITED FUND OF NEW YORK, INC. Renewal of License.
E 560 KHZ CATSKILL, NY Renewal application dismissed
by letter dated 12/13/07;
1800B3-ALM

Petition for Reconsideration
and renewal granted by letter
dated 5/21/2008; 1800B3-RDH

Anybody know anything new?

CJ

I can’t fathom why they renew the license since The Black United Fund is financially unable to broadcast and has been for years . The FCC should require WCKL ( or any other mostly silent broadcaster) to demonstrate their ability and willingness to broadcast on a regular basis , not just to simulcast another station , in this case WZCR for a month or two, each year just to keep the license alive before renewing their license .

I seem to recall that the FCC used to have a requirement like that in the license - the licensee had to be able ($$$) to continue to run the station for a period of time without income. Anyone?

The wise thing for The Black United Fund to do *if* they get the license back is to sell the damn thing and walk away. WCKL as a commercial station might make it in the Catskill/Hudson area as a mom/pop run station.

MAYBE that's what's going on...wink wink

Is this a simocast, or original programming on WCKL that you're hearing?

I just heard it today!!

I wondered if it was that 98.5 down south there..........

Hehe i wonder how long they stay on this time before dropping off! (They fixed thier stick, they have a nice strong signal again here)

I noticed today they were off,i wonder if they are gonna pull the same crap they did before.... (Only coming on for a few weeks then dropping again for a year)

You're right, The Dude! I just checked 560 and it is still not simulcasting "Lite-FM", it is still off the air, when I hear the top of the hour, it says "WCTW/WCKL Catskill", WCKL is still not simulcasting, that a bunch of BS! Why did I can't even hear 560? All I hear is nothing!!!!! WCKL is still owned by the Black United Fund of New York where they broadcast nothing. Screw everyone!!!

Apparently, all you know is nothing.

'CKL is off the air for two reasons

1- transmitter problems. Off freq by almost a full kc, but none of you experts even noticed.
2- beancounters at CC didn't care for paying the power bill - so off they went.

Apparently Disney doesn't listen or care about 560, since he had to check to see if they were even on the air in the first place - yet gets riled when he finds they're not. Yes Disney, we're laughing AT you.

All the other boards on this site seem halfway normal, yet I come check out Albany/HV is it's populated with people who obviously sneak some extra internet time at the ARC. What gives?

Has anyone noticed that Cheap Channel was required to divest WCKL to a sham holding company because they were over the ownership limit, and therefore it is as unlawful for a Cheap Channel station be be simulcast on WCKL as is would be for them to own it?

Here is a lists of station that WCKL has simulcast over a few years:

1. WBPM "Cool 92.9"
2. WZCR "Cruisin' 93.5"
3. WCTW "98.5 Lite-FM"

As for the TOH station ID, he mentions WCKL, but WCKL isn't on the air anymore, that sucks! Why not run notihnig but silent program on WCKL which is now owned by BUFNY, and maybe they will make a decision to flip to classic urban black music.
