WCKY fires 'Angry Guy' Skinner

How does Tim lose his job and Lance McAlister still gets to crack a mic?

Lance does one of the most well preped and entertaining shows in town. It will be good to hear Big Dog back in Cincinnati, but Skinny isn't the same without Gamble.

I bet it was a money savings deal...

Strictly a theory!!

Lewis begins news on WLW, but with his experience he probably makes some jack and he was no longer in the Newsroom budget.

Skinny's number were loooowwww and salary was high, so they moved Lewis to Skinny slot. Also I bet there was a promise to Big Dog when he can to WLW that if something came open he would get it....

Again strictly a theory.... but given CC history it may be true.

PS - I didn't like Skinny or Big Dog, but prefer Skinny...

Prep is one thing. Talent another.

WHOOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!!! ANOTHER request answered by the radio gods! skinny, don't let the door hit you...

i came to cincy a few years ago and literally jotted down my wish-list for cincy radio:

- ditch jerry & craig
- ditch the 2AGs
- competition for the sports shows
- ditch garry burbank (ok, so retiring gets the same result)
- bring in mancow
- bring in a non-CC talk station

others on the list that haven't quite made it:
- a humbling of lance, he's not whom he thinks he is
- a chick talk host on WLW. eileen byrn would be great now that she's gone from WLS.
- give ken broo a sports talk show (kinda hasn't totally happened yet - post bengals games doesn't count. i'm talking daily.)

here's hoping for the final three. this is insane that i wrote all that stuff down....

I never liked The Two Angry guys...It was way to negative and it was the same show every day. 3 hours of how bad the Reds are is too much. Tim Lewis will be a breath of fresh air in the morning. Go Big Dog!!

My recollection of Lewis on WBOB was lack of preparation and pretty much a boring show. Nothing against Tim personally but I remember turning him off because he seemed like he was just "winging it". I'm the type of listener that wants the host to sound like he's done some research the night before and I just never heard it with Tim. Good luck to Skinny. It may be time to look beyond Radio for his next gig. By the way, there IS life after Radio.

It's easy to look like a genius when you claim predictions after the fact.

my predictions

- Air America will be taken off the air
- WEBN will move fireworks to Channel 5...and here's a scoop ... Get a new sponsor
- The sun came up!

I'm a genius!!!!

ummm.... i've been on record here, and a few other forums, with all of the afore-mentioned wishes for the last three years. never said i was making predictions, friend. they were things on my radio wish-list....as in where i wrote "...jotted down my wish list for cincy radio."

i've taken a lot of heat from this forum (back before the redesign of this website when it was .org or whatever) and lance's former forum for my wishes, especially for berating jerry thomas and the 2AGs. i even started a petition to have the 2AGs removed from radio, but was shot down by someone who sounded like mr. parks over the phone and email - though i could never confirm it. and i recall the first time i suggested that garry burbank was long past his relevance - maybe one or two years ago - i was told i didn't know what i was talking about, he's a legend, blah blah blah.

First...I'm not your friend. Personally, I think your a bitter radio guy who lost a gig and can't get over it, no matter what you claim to say, and to pred...I mean wish .. the demise of Jerry Thomas and Burbank isn't too clairvoyant.....

By the way, Mancow will be gone soon..as soon as the 2AG's sign with 96.5...so start calling the management of 96.5...Right................Now

sheesh, friend, who's bitter?

mancow gets anywhere from 5-10 calls from this listening area per morning, as i listen from 6a-9:30a every day and hear it. you really think they're going to hire the 2 Angry Hacks? 4 hours of typical cincinnati banter: complaining.

for the record, i put in my hex on burbank and thomas after 2 days of their washed up shows. that was almost 4 years ago. i had never heard of them, and quite honestly, thought each was some kind of sarcastic skit on how cheesey radio of yesteryear was. to my horror - and those i pointed to the respective web streams when they became available - it was no skit. cincinnati is a market stuck in the 70s, and it's nice to see/hear changes.

Wow you spend 3.5 hours listening to each show, writing down a tally mark each time someone says "Cincinnati or Dayton". That is truly amazing.

no, i don't, actually. i'm just a good observer. it's not like the "real" numbers are crunched in any more complex way than what i do personally, when you get down to it. i do, however, have mancow on in the background for the first 3.5 hours of my day while i hit the gym, prepare for, drive to, and start work. how does my previous thing of saying i listen to the show and note that there's a lot of local callers translated into listening to "each show" 3.5 hours? i'm a fan of the show, i listen, and my ears perk up whever eric addresses a caller by their locale. if the caller is from OH, IN, or KY, they're more often than not local to this area. but that's just recently - say, the last 3 weeks or so. who knows - maybe listernship will drop. i just know what i hear.

Then you can't say its 5-10 callers per day. You perceive it to be 5-10 callers per day. Also I hope you realize you can not judge listenership by number of calls to a show.

A little off-topic, but Mancow will do no better here than Howard Stern. Every time someone with national success comes to town, a small but vocal band of idiots warn the rest of us rubes that our local no-talents will soon be history.

Fired radio host blames budget ax
By Rick Bird
Post staff reporter

Sports talk host Richard Skinner thinks it may have been a budget-cutting mentality that led to his firing on Monday.

"That's my own personal take. They can spin it all they want," he said Tuesday. "It's obvious they didn't bring Tom (Gamble) back in the morning with me and I think that had a lot to do with budget."

Skinner was let go from WCKY-AM (1530), known as Homer, the Sports Animal, replaced Tuesday morning by Tim Lewis.

Homer program director Dave Armburster said it was a move made because it was time for a change and ratings had been declining. The Homer morning show, and the station in general, has been slipping slightly in the ratings. Skinner's shift went from 14th to 17th in the morning since fall.

suuuuure, skinny. it had nothing to do with the fact that you sound like a 12 year old boy, are out of touch with nearly everything sports and pop culture, and come across as condescending.

also...
@ tito
you are right. i can't say that i "know". my bad. in my new(er) profession - branding/marketing - i conduct a lot of focus groups to test various impressions of products and services, and i'm just using the same logic when it comes to how many people from this area call mancow's show.

What's fair is fair.. I need to eat my words on what I said earlier in this thread on my not liking Tim Lewis's show. I have listened since he took over for Skinny and for some reason, I find him more listenable than his days at WBOB. I even called in this morning to rant on the Reds. So, I'm doing about half Howard Stern this week and the other half for 1530.
