WCKY-FM

Isn't CC selling off this station too? If so one may as well apply for new calls since CKY is also an AM owned by CC in Cincy.
 
As posted earlier...

"The wording of the sales agreement between BAS and C.C. (for WPFX and WTTF) gives BAS the right of first refusal to purchase WCKY if C.C. decides to sell, as long as WCKY is licensed to Tiffin. We think changing the city of license (to Pemberville from Tiffin) may just be C.C.'s way of legally selling the station to someone besides BAS."

The application for the change in the city of license (accepted for filing on June 23) has NOT been acted upon by the FCC.

In reviewing their filing, Exhibit 1 amends their application, filed June 19, that they are now in compliance with multiple ownership rules. This as a result of selling PFX. First Tiffin to Pemberville. Second is anyone's guess.
 
I do remember the arrangement that if they kept the signal licensed to Tiffin, BAS had first right of refusal on the purchase.

However with a move to Pemberville, it makes me more and more think that Toledo Radio (new owners of WPFX) have something in the waiting. This way, they could remain the Findlay Combo, but truly target the Wood Co. audience.
 
It does make one think that the PFX and CKY dealings are linked.
 
I thought Toledo Radio-Dan Dudley’s past relationships were with Cumulus, not Clear Channel.

Dudley has recently gifted all the PFX assets.

Driving by F-town recently, I heard RWK on 107.7. Perhaps they were checking the transmitter and since there is no equipment, the Cumulus signal was the only audio available?

The CKY change from Tiffin to Pemberville has nothing to do with BAS. I heard they were challenged to raise the $5.2m, let alone the additional $3.2m Clear Channel wanted for CKY.

Once CKY gets approval to move to Pemberville, maybe they will file to move the antenna to a Clear Channel tower closer to Toledo. Whether they continue to broadcast from 103.7, at a reduced power, or another frequency is anyone's guess.
 
I think there is something much much bigger in the works between Clear Channel, Cumulus and Toledo Radio.

CC can own an extra FM, however they arent in expansion mode. Instead they are looking to eventually jump the ship in Toledo.

Cumulus isnt in expansion mode either, and they may have to put a station or two up on the block eventually.

Toledo Radio Inc. is in expansion mode and they hope to have additional stations to support their new 107.7. So after some research and thought, here is an idea (not this is only an idea)

*Cumulus sells 106.5 WRWK and the intellectual property to Dudley
*Clear Channel sells 103.7 WCKY to Dudley in exchange for the 106.5 signal.
*Clear Channel launches the new 106.5 WCKY

This gives Dudley 103.7 and 107.7 but with a Wood County focus. 103.7 flips to some form of Adult Hits or Rock. 107.7 goes back to Country as Jumpin County 107.7
 
I agree there must be something going on between 103.7 and 107.7. The 'relationship' between clear channel and cumulus is a bit much to comprehend. But strange bed partners...
 
WCKY-FM and WPFX-FM

What happens now that the FCC has approved the city of license change from Tiffin to Pemberville? Can CKY move their studios to Superior?

Will San Antonio now file to relocate the transmitter? I bet there are a few Clear Channel towers to accommodate the antenna closer to Toledo that will provide better coverage, even at reduced power or another frequency.

Which reminds me, where is Toledo Radio with WPFX?
 
Although they make reference to Findlay, it is less and generally when they include BG and other communities. Toledo is their focus. Why would they want to maintain studios in Findlay? They probably fall under Andy Stuart now?
 
From what I've been told, WCKY is still operated by Kim and Ed out of Lima. Basically, nothing has changed except the city of license.
 
For those that don't understand how the FCC works, to change the city of license, you have to apply for a "construction permit," even if you are not constructing anything. Once approved (which the city of license change was approved for WCKY), you then have to apply for the license to cover the construction permit. This is simply that, the app for the license. Nothing on this app makes any changes to power levels or where the transmitter and tower are located. This part of the process is usually a rubber stamp, since the construction permit phase is where all the decisions are actually made.
 
i have to ask...why the change of col? what is in the works? one doesn't just change the col for a thrill. how many people work at cc findlay?
 
Thanks for the information BAS. I would think Kim and Ed still have plenty of support staff in Findlay.
 
Pemberville is within 25 miles of Toledo, hence the studio can be in Toledo under the present rules.

Also, Pemberville is in Wood County, part of the Arbitron metro. Tiffin is not.
 
The can keep the tower and power at 50,000 watts from their location outside of Tiffin, or they can relocate the tower to a new shiny location in Wood County for a downgrade to 6,000 watts in Bowling Green.
