WCLK files for slight upgrade

Rick Rose 2.0

I see that WCLK has filed to move to the Richland tower site which will dramatically increase their HAAT from 92m to 302m but will have to compensate by cutting power down to 480 watts. It appears it will be ommi directional and will reach more people with a better signal.

They will then have a signal about like 97.9 FM. This will be a big step forward for WCLK - they have quite a few listeners and will gain more with a more usable signal on the northside and in Dekalb.

Didn't they have a CP for a Richland move several years ago but never used it?

They did. It was for 300 feet at 3 KW. Problem was they would create coverage issues in southwest Atlanta......where the Clark President happened to live.
It's never a good idea to make it hard to hear the radio station in the owner or GM's shower.......
The current CP will allow city wide coverage with minimal shading from the downtown buildings.

There's a picture of one of the "rototillers" (one section of the antenna) on the wrek.org website.
WREK will have a mostly new plant after the antenna install - it's going to be a nice facility. You WREK guys should be proud - I know it's been a long haul......
