WCLP-TV, Chatsworth

I know this is a TV question and probably should be on the Atlanta TV board, but most of the local engineers read this board. They are the ones I am directing these questions to.

This week I took my nephews to stay at Fort Mountain State Park in Chatsworth. While there, we drove up to the transmitter site for WCLP (located on top of one of the mountains in the park). I did not see any bays on the tower. I assume the tower is still being used, but the only bay I saw was a very small one at the tip of the tower and I don't think it can handle UHF power. Any of you guys been to the tower before and can tell me what I saw or did not see? :)

The WCLP-TV, Chatsworth tower/transmitter site on top of Fort Mountain in rural Murray county is also home to assorted government communications systems.
Unless you are interested in a visit to the Guantomino Bay area of southeastern Cuba, I would not recommend a return visit and "drive" up to the transmitter site.

I am not quite sure how to take your post. The transmitter site is on the road that is part of the pioneer campground of the park. We were staying in a cabin in the park. It was a short drive up to the transmitter site on a paved road that is open to all park goers. I was asking a question about the tower.

It is Ok to go to the site and if you call ahead they will give you a facility tour or at least they used to.

The last time I was up there the antenna on the very top of the tower was the WCLP TV antenna. It does not look like a multi-bay broadcast FM antenna. There is also a translator on 94.7 for WCCV in Cartersville(91.7FM @ 50KW). The coverage of that translator, at 2,800+ ASL, is great.

You also have a NOAA transmitter on 162.400 Mhz @ 200w and various other transmitters and repeaters.

OnTheAir123, it appears they have remoted operation of transmitter... probably to Atlanta. Whe I was up there, of course the fence was closed and locked. Also, there were no cars there. Completely deserted. I did not even know the tower was there until I saw the park map that showed the road and the "TV Tower".... well, I knew somewhere in the back of my brain, but it did not click until I saw the map.

The view from up there is spectacular. Especially this time of the year with no leaves on the trees.

Guantonimo bay line was a small attempt at humor. Obviouslly a little smaller than I originally antisipated.
