WCLS 97.7 Now Classic Christmas ...

... As of Friday

Seems pretty bland. But then again, most Christmas stations don't get a lot of thought to the imaging, at least not in my experience. And the signal itself seems a little flat.

Don't think we'll be seeing a lot of discussion unless it is on sound soley...there've been what, 3 topics on the suspected flip now?

The signal sounds good to me. I dont understand why they are still marketing it as a Spencer station, when the stick is clearly Closer to Bloomington, and Bloomington is a Metro City, much more potential than the little hick town of Spencer. If they continue to target Spencer, and not Bloomington, I cant see them being anything other than Country, or Possibly Religious. Spencer and Ellettsville are both Conservative Farm towns, so I dont see Top 40, or Hot ac happening here, without targeting Bloomington, and some of the nearby Hick Towns like Martinsville, Cloverdale, and Bloomfield. And other than CHR or Adult CHR, what other format holes does the area have. People seem to be loyal to these local small town country stations, you would be surprise how many people listen to Small Town Country stations, like WCBK 102.3 in Martinsville, and Rebel 94.3 in Greencastle.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see what WCLS puts on their station after Christmas. Bloomington already has country, adult CHR, news/talk, and to a lesser degree...AAA. Alternative would probably work in Bloomington, but I really don't see Mid-America attemping such a format. Mainstream AC may be a possibility. AC is normally a pretty easy format to sell and Bloomington definitely lacks a good mainstream AC station. Perhaps, they could name the station "Classy 97.7--Lite Rock with Class". Just a thought. :)

Mid America makes Alternative, Rhythmic, and Probably CHR out of the question. I think the Classy 97.7 idea would definatly work, because as you said, B-town is without a local AC station. They cant even hear B-105.7 down there, due to 105.5 Bedford Bleeding over on them, and B-102.7 is very weak there.. Didnt Mid America Own Energy 102.9 in Huntington- Fort Wayne, when they had the Dance format, im pretty sure they did, but I could be wrong.

Taylor Broadcasting Corp. owned Energy 102.9, WEXI, during their dance days. Energy was definitely an interesting little station. It probably would have been much better had the music not been overmodulated and better imaging was in place at the time.

Bad Move, Non Progressive format, High Burn Factor, Classic Rock isnt doing all that well these days. On the other hand, we are talking South Cetnral indiana, their 20 years behind on everything, and everybody is a Redneck, almost everyone at least, so maybe it will get a few listeners. Lord forbid they try anything (NON-LAME),, this is the sad, but true state of radio in Central Indiana, Very Conservative markets.

Re: WCLS 97.7 Now Classic Christmas , BUT WHAT NEXT

I would like to see a Q95 type rock station. But that probably is not realistic. Maybe they make it the more realistic Oldies or Hot Country.
