WCLS and Dick Bartley

I don't feel right naming this subject WLCS--Is Anybody Minding The Store?, but that would have fit better. Been listening to Dick Bartley since he started at 7PM and there have been roughly a dozen liners an hour playing over songs & spots alike. It's obvious that no one responsible is listening (or if they are, they aren't willing to nuke their Saturday night to go pull the relay contact plug out of the satellite receiver). Legal ID's play at times other than the top of the hour & nothing plays at the top of the hour. I've been there...getting contact closures wired & tested is often a frustrating, time consuming experience. But I don't leave the job site until the station is air-worthy. This one flunks...not sure who wired it, but it's driving all but the hard core Bartley fans away. Guess I qualify as one of those...not many folks listen to a class A at 40 miles for anything. I hope they are aware of this issue & put some engineering elbow grease into it.

Have you tried notifying Dick Bartley as the syndicator? Or United Stations Radio Networks? Sounds like some egomaniac might want on the air in the time slot on Saturdays. He used to get shut down before the end of his show on another station, and WTRY runs commercials right on into the beginning of his next set regularly. If people leave because of it the station will blame Dick Bartley for not being able to keep listeners. Dick might try to help them to fix it up and make it all better.

Good suggestion...I once went to Dick's website and there was no way for anyone except those who want to air the show to contact him. Getting through on his request line is about the only form of contact he offers. Do you have an email address for him?

I’ve been listening to the flawless “Station Playlist” presentation on 4.6-watt 1580 WIFE this evening. I will be departing Connersville tomorrow, and will unfortunately leave this fine little radio station behind. I have enjoyed its exceptional audio fidelity and dependability on my little Meduci AM tuner.

It’s great listening to this station OTA – as opposed to an internet feed.

GOOD JOB, Bob!

Bob, I believe Steve Ross is still the engineer for that group of stations, at least in this area. Of all people, he should know better after having dealt with so many sat. configurations when in Danville.

Thanks as always for listening & enjoying my handiwork. I'm usually in Connesrville the last Thursday morning of the month (but not this month). Let me know if you're ever there on one of those days...I'd enjoy meeting you & showing you the transmitter plant...it's not much, kinda in "The Little Engine That Could" category. Unfortunately, I spent all the money making the AM sound good...the Internet stream is just a $50 Behringer Stereo compressor doin' the best it can. I don't see that changing for the forseable future. I would love to put the Breakway Broadcast Live! software on the streaming computer for $129 but given the economy, I know I'd be laughed at just for asking ;D.

If they spent as much time on their tech side as they do the annoying montages of music clips they call promos, it would be a great station. (Not fun when you sit through 2-3 minutes of them back to back due to lack of sponsors.) I think when the staff goes home at 5 so does anyone that may check on the stations. They are filled with errors nightly, dead air, static and late joins, early re-joins. :-\

You could always call the station.

Ask for Tony Kale (OM/PD/Mornings)

Thanks for the “invite” Bob... I’d love to trek up to the top of Jenny’s Point and see that big-bad BE in all of its 250-watts of “glory” :) Hey, the internet stream would sound as good as your OTA effort if you could get Mr. Rogers to spring for a PC Optimod! I have this curious suspicion that WIFE's internet audience may exceed the OTA AM listership ;)

Update...I've emailed Tony Kale & Dick Bartley...no reply from either. I guess nobody cares! And we wonder why radio is hurtin'....
