WCLV Misses The Radio Ranch

That being said, the positives of moving there seem to outweigh the benefits. Settling into a new studio space takes a great deal of time to adjust, no?

I would venture to say that the 95/5-for-104.9 facility swap in 2001 was more challenging than this, especially with the listener base that had to troubleshoot and adjust to the newer (and smaller) signal.

Unless I misread the article, one ( 1 ) person does not make up the " staff " ( staff means all the employees ). Staff is plural ( I thought anyway.) The post above says the staff didn't like it. The article only mentions one person who may have a negative impression about a studio the public can see. Two other staff members say they like the new place! Thats why I commented as I did n my first post. Why this thread says the " staff " does not like it is beyond me. Talk about rewriting a story!

I wish WCLV's antenna could move to the top of the Key Bank Building. They would throw a much more even signal over the metro.
Even with the reduced power required by the height, they would be so high up, it would make a big difference. Move city of license to Lakewood or something. My God, Clear Channel inches stations out of original city of license, moves them again and before you know it 98.1 (originally Canton, now "Monroe Falls") is 10 or 15 miles closer to Cleveland.

I think they could get away with it.

Before there was a 104.7 in Geneva, it's possible that they could have done just that.

With 104.7 in Geneva, there's no room to move 104.9 any further east than it's already gone.

And comparing 98.1 moving up to its old 96.5 site with a COL of Munroe Falls, vs. moving 104.9:

98.1 had not only grandfathering on its side, but the engineering advantage of CC also owning the 98.3 sign-on in Ashtabula at launch (WYBL "The Bull", now owned by Media One). Not to mention Fredericktown, though that's in the opposite direction.

104.9 can't do anything to go east unless 104.7 goes away/moves/etc., and it's owned by a different company (Music Express).

The PD article by Julie Washington was researched in January when the "posters were indeed stacked waiting to be hung." Most of them are now up. The work stations are filled with happy people going about their business and personally decorating their areas. We all are very pleased with the new digs and excited to be downtown with access to ideastream's performance studios and other facilities.

If you haven't moved a radio station, then you have no idea of the complexity involved and the time it takes to get everything
in order. We're still not done with all of the technical changes. I've done it three times. I trust I will not have to do it again.

Regarding the 'fishbowl", Jackie Gerber's comment about the "radio-quarium" was a joke. For years, WCLV was all by itself at Radio Ranch, with visitors mostly people to be interviewed or clients coming in to record commercials. We are now situated in a building with 133 people working for ideastream, many of whom take the elevator
that empties out right in front of our studios, all of which can be seen from the hallway.

One listner responded to Jackie's comments by sending her some
fish and sea life decals to put up on the three big glass windows that surround the air studio. She has done so, and a picture will soon be posted on our website.

This has become a nice stichk for Jackie's morning show. Perhaps "radio-quarium" will stick like "Radio Ranch" stuck when it was so called
by the late Dick Kaye, GM of WCRB in Boston, whose Saturday program
similar to WCLV's old WCLV Saturday Night show, traded segments with us.

Mr. Conrad, thanks for the note! I'd like to grab some of it for OMW, if you don't mind.

Glad to hear you're enjoying life at the Radio-Quarium!

Yeah, 104.7 Geneva is the fly in the ointment. Wish Bob and crew could buy 104.7 and move it further east or accept their own overlap.
Can't imagine the Key Bank WCLV signal would seriously interfere with 104.7 in their current primary service area (Mentor to Ashtabula). It would be a high elevation class "a" running maybe 700 watts or something, but a clear sight line to more of the metro. Maybe a slight directional bite toward Mentor if need be. Anything so I can get WCLV in Brecksville again! PS -- Ms. Gerber is a gem. So nice to hear an "up" morning show host who actually has a vocabulary.

Not the first time "DToTheJ" has been corrected on this board... ;)

I kid, D... but this clearly was taking a funny aside by Ms. Gerber totally out of context.

The only reason why I got the impression that "the staff" may not be enthused was because "posters... have yet to be hung." Thanks to Mr. Conrad for pointing out that it was an earlier point in time and not recently. And an apology for giving the wrong impression, as well; again, that was just how I originally perceived it by reading that part of the article. Much success at your new digs.

104.9 could actually move another 2 1/2 miles to the east, but that would put the stick in Westlake or Bay Village and you can imagine the potential NIMBY outrage over tht one.

Define NIMBY?
