WCLX on 107.1?

I was at the Monsters game last night, and saw a billboard in left-center field for WCLX. Apparently, they have a simulcast on 107.1 now with WELX as the calls. Radio-Locator says they're licensed to Dannemora, NY (where 2Pac and ODB have both done time.)

1) When did they sign on?

2) How the hell did somebody get a license to broadcast on 107.1 only 74 miles from Barre?

Here is a picture of the WELX tower over looking Dannemora. (Its just on the west side of town on the top of the hill).

It's been on for at least three weeks.

They just applied for an increase 1kW. Don't forget that both are Class A's and the Mt Mansfield range seperates the two signals very nicely.

This is in response to the (somewhat hostile) inquiry by "Trash Talker" (Will?)

It's interesting that anyone would even ask a question like this without any understanding of FCC licensing procedures.

"How the hell....?" Yikes. Well......the same way that anyone would go about getting a legitimate license.

All of the rules are available online. Go for it.

Hostile? Jesus, take it easy, honey. I'm surprised at the FCC. They have to give you permission to broadcast on the frequency. How could you possibly construe that as a shot at you or your station?

Seriously, best of luck to you. If the Point is going to play "Genie In A Bottle", here's your chance to take their audience.

Whenever I'm in the Burlington area, I always make sure to tune in WCLX. There is truly no other station like it that I know of in New England. Granted, it's not a ratings monster nor is it designed to be that... nor is there any flashy imaging or big-time promotions. Just a great eclectic mix of album cuts that no one else plays. Bazillions of dollars in research show time and time again that most people want the hits, but it's good to see a (commercial) station that caters to those few whose tastes run much deeper. If they're meeting expenses doing what they do, more power to 'em.

I don't know when I'll be in Burlington next, but play some Strawbs for me next time I make it up there!
