WCLY Columbia, PA - What Happened?

Looking at Eastern PA on Google Earth, I spotted a tower on Shultz Rd for WCLY south of Columbia. The FCC says it died in the 70's, but the tower still stands. Anyone here know the scoop?

your talking about wcoy columbia,pa.
it came on in 57 went off in the early 70s
came back on in 84....went off in 96....
came back on in 97...went off for good this
time in 2007. tower and trailer for the station
is gone.

Oh do I remember WHEX, fantastic oldies station, "LET US PUT A HEX ON YOU" was their slogan, I recall some recording artist owned it, was it Jimmy Clanton.... this is around the early 70's....horrible signal though...

jimmy clanton did not own whex...but he did do his show daily
from the park city mall in lancaster. they had a complete studio
set up. the signal was not the best but they did have some numbers
being daytime only.

There were a few calls on 1580 Columbia, PA such as WCOY, WHEX, WCLY, WNZT and finally WVZN. Story has it the last owner lost the tower sight after not paying the taxes (does that sound familiar?), put up a temporary antenna then lost that location, going off 11/2008 or so. The license for this one should be going away very soon since nothing has been done with it in the year following it going off.
