WCMC must have the best 100o watt radio coverage in the area. Even up against WPHT it can be heard in Center City Philadelphia from 19th street in Wildwood.

WUSS doesn't do too bad at 400 watts, reaching from Bayville to Wildwood.

It's a shame Access.1 can't find anything to put on 1490, other than a TKU simulcast. Why did they pull the plug on AM1490 - The Game anyway?

Re: WCMC / WTKU / WUSS / WMID !

Hmmmm ... I would venture a guess here ...
The Game was sharing a teeny audience
with ESPN1450 - probably more cost and
effort went into it than any possible
return. Putting WTKU on gave them a
presence on the AM dial near WMID which
is giving tired sounding WTKU a run
for it's money. Not a bad move.

It's true WTKU is tired sounding! But WMID is really a joke. NO local content at all and no talent there to make it work. They picked the worst oldies to play. Whoever programs it, better pick a better programmer!

Having been out to the WCMC transmitter site, I can tell you that it is rather unimpressive using a grounded, shunt fed tower with the transmitter located in a little shack. However, inside that shack sits a fairly new BE Solid State transmitter which cruises along at a kw. I have no idea what type of audio processing they use or how aggresive it is. The transmitter site is in an excellent location from a ground conductivity standpoint.

Re: WCMC - details

Actually, it's a very well designed folded unipole,
not a shunt fed. I wouldn't call the concrete
block building "a little shack" but whatever.
The processing is an Optimod 9100.

Re: WCMC / WTKU / WUSS / WMID !

Funny how "the joke" is only a few tenths of a point
behind WTKU in the "oldies demos" (Arb Fall 2004)
I think the programmer is playing what the people what they
want to hear, and they are voting with their diaries.
Apparently the "talent" isn't missed.

Hmmm - here's one demo where "the joke" got a
3.6 and WTKU got a 3.0 ... Women 35+
Maybe WTKU better get some "talent to make it work"
and maybe they "better pick a better programmer"

I would have to agree with Tom to some degree. While radio is about the music, it is also about personality too (atleast in my opinion). I happened to catch WMID about a month ago while down in AC. Even though I was a fan of the WW1 Standards format, I happen to enjoy what I heard on WMID. It sounded very much like WMTR/WWTR in North Jersey minus the jocks of course. I cannot tell you how many businesses from AC all the way down to Cape May used to tune into WMID (when it was on 102.3 in this case) and I still heard some pulling it in on 1340 last summer. I am curious as to how many of those businesses are still "tuned into" WMID. My guess would be a pretty large chunk given the fact that WKOE 106.3 "The Breeze" was spotty at best in Southern Cape May County. I like the jocks I hear on WMTR, but I DID enjoy what I heard on WMID too. Let's face it...less "chit chat" = MORE MUSIC. I don't think most people would be likely to complain about that!

Just one guy's opinion...

Re: WCMC - details

Haha ... I've just seen lots worse.
Some people get those wooden sheds you
put in your backyard and put transmitters
in them. So, that one isn't bad for Wildwood, NJ.
I don't know how long that tower has been there,
WCMC moved studios and transitter sites a few
times since it went on the air.
